I bought the Mx1000 laser mouse form logitech's official site a while back, and when i got it it turned out to be deffective. I called their tech support and they said since it was under warranty theyd mail me a new one.

I asked what to do with the old one, thinking id have to mail it back to them, they said anything you want... i was like WTF

Whats to prevent someone from exploiting this and a getting a buy one get one free on basically any logitech product?

I was wondering the same thing when I had to rma my z-2200 speakers. The CSR just said scratch off the serial number off the old sub (the only defective part) and I got sent a completly new, retail version of the z-2300.

I think that they are trying to go on the honesty system.....they dont have the cheapest products...but damn the customer service is great!!!

If everyone starts to rma their products for BOGO, they'll realize it, for I dont think they are stupid imo.

i figured they look at your name/address that they're about to ship to and if they see you've never RMAed with them before, then it's more likely that you're being honest. but i'm sure if you've RMAed fifty different pairs of speakers and what not, then they'll have a couple of questions..

Wow thats nice. I would think they make enough profit on some items to really be able to handle this.

Those programmable remotes cant cost nearly that much to manufacture. After all its a programmable mouse. A mouse is only a 2 button remote. They nearly use all the same parts.

Speaking on those Harmony Remotes, those things ROCK! I have had two of them, the old one got given to my parents, but I can't live without that thing now, because I had about 4 remotes for my home theatre system and now just the one. I mean I had had universals before but they never had all the functions you wanted. This one can make any button do any action you want. it's great.

Sorry for the random off topic.

I dont doubt its performance. Like almost all logitech devices they rock.

Look at the hardware it takes to make a mouse and then look at the remote.
USB Cord, IR Sender/receiver, One has more Buttons.

Nearly the same technology used to make a mouse can be made to make a remote.

Logitech is brilliant but those remotes cant cost much more than a mouse to produce.

For low cost items like mice most companies will just send you a new one rather than organising an RMA. It costs a company a substantial amount to process an RMA - shipping, tracking, testing, and disposal. For a $30 item, it's often cheaper just to replace it no questions asked.

Believe it or not, scrap electronics (like a faulty mouse) is classed as toxic waste when disposed of by a business - this is expensive, and consumes a lot of staff time dealing with it. For a domestic user, you can just dispose of it however you like.

 Logitech

My mx700 mouse, part of a wireless kb/mouse combo, died - I called them and they're sending me a whole new combo, free, and I don't have to send anything back.

Mine just stopped working one day. Was fine one second, I put it in its cradle & got up, then remembered something else I was going to do, sat down, took it out of its cradle, set it down, and it wasn't working /shrug

Microsoft does the exact same thing with their mice (and probably keyboards). I've gotten a replacement for an original one replaced. They rock too!

edit: See the big thread in Hot Deals for all the info.

Last time I called Logitech to RMA a brand new diVoNo set (keyboard + mouse), i was on the phone with them for 45 mins.
At last, I had to ship back that clumsy package ($30 for shipping) and waited for more than 2 months for the replacement to arrive.
