This is an update of a situation first discussed in this thread.

High school basketball star LeBron James was ruled ineligible to play for the rest of the season because he accepted free clothes.
...
Last Saturday, James was given two retro sports jerseys from a clothing store. The jerseys, honoring former Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers and former Washington Bullets center Wes Unseld, cost a combined $845.

ESPN.com article

He knew the rules, and made a stupid choice anyway. Oh well, he's probably just counting down the days until the NBA Draft (read: Payday).

I am so sick of hearing about him. Tomorrow it will be "Did LeBron pay for the Cap'n Crunch he had for breakfast?!?!".

Ugh.

Apparently you do.

I don't understand people who come into threads, knowing full well what the topic is, and say "WHO CARES?"

If you didn't care, then why did you take the time to read the post and reply to it? No one says you have to respond to every post on the forum.

Class envy? Hardly. More like sick of athletes skirting the rules and acting like they are above the rules, regulations, and laws the rest of us have to live by. I'm glad they busted him. Now maybe the truth about that $120,000 Humvee he is sporting around in will finally come out. No way in hell his Mom, who lives in public housing and has no job, could have ever secured a legitimate loan for that card. Sad part is that this punk will now go to the NBA and make millions. Yeah....that's a REALLY good way to punish someone for bad behavior.

Oh I do. They are saying they don't care buy are envious as hell. It's like that Anna Nicloe show, documenting the decline of someone who is rich, young and beautiful so they can delude themselves into believing that they wouldn't want to trade places with her. "Oh, I may work fifty hours a week at a shityty job and be totally miserable, but at least I don't have a big ass and drink too much." Yeah right

Bad behavior? What did he do?

His mom secured a loan on projected earnings. A guy gave him two jerseys.

I agree that he should have been smarter than accepting those items before the season was over, but that isn't BAD behavior. If I was 18 years old and people wanted to give me stuff like an H2 and throwback jerseys, I am pretty sure I would take them too.

It was poor judgement, not bad behavior.

"I'd like to thank my teammates for helping me through all this,'' he said. "It will be in the paper, but remember, I'm on the honor roll with a 3.5 grade-point average.''
Ya, as if his english teacher is going to give Lebron James a C in lit class...

Well, I guess that means he gets to sign his big shoe contract a month early...

Amazing how all he had to do was wait a little while to have the world handed to him and he and his mother couldn't do it.

Good kid from all reports...just naieve and surrounded by questionable individuals.

Life is entirely what you make of it, and happiness in no way revolves around money.

For some people it does, and they will waste their lives chasing but a mere shadow.

He seems pretty decent (from what I've read), but his parents are asshats.

I agree with you for the most part, but I don't think it's overly generous for a bank to approve that loan considering the projected earnings (re: $mil's signing bonus) starting 4 months from now. If I was a banker, I'd do it. Even if the kid gets hurt, I'm sure he's got insurance for that.
