WoW, lag when loading & other fun questions

I have a few questions but I'll start with just a curiosity one.

I have an AMD 2500 (OC to 3000), 512MB PC3200, WD Raptor (37gb), 9800 Pro and I run at high graphics @ 1280x1024 resolution for World of Warcraft. My GF has gotten into the game (yes!) and she is currently on my little Dell 700m laptop (1.6m, 512MB). From the initial load of the game she loads faster, like 3-4 seconds faster and I'm baffled. I can hear my HD chugging away and I'd think it would wipe hers clean. She did make note of how my resolution is super (1280x1024) and hers is not (800x600) so is it just that I have so much more to load?

That isn't a BIG deal for me. I want to build a new computer because I feel bad having her use a tiny laptop to play. I figure I can pass down my computer and build myself a 64-bit machine but thats neither here nor there.

I have another computer that used to be my gaming machine (1.7P4, 512MB PC2700, 5200RPM, 2MB Maxtor 40GB, nVidia GeForce 4400 (64MB)) I was almost certain that this machine would romp the laptop in performance for this game but I guess I underestimated the 700m. This machine is a total dog playing WoW or doing anything.

Would it be financially best for me to upgrade the video card and hard drive in the pentium box or should I let it die? The motherboard on this box is limited to 4x AGP as well. The processor is 423 pin (ew).

Any suggestions? In the end I want a machine that will run WoW as well as my AMD for my GF and that is it. I don't want to dump $700 for a 64Bit if she will stop playing in 2 months.

Thanks in advance.
