WoW killer it is not. Aion announces server mergers.

Who didn't see this coming a mile away?

One of the more recent concerns that we’ve heard is related to server populations, both in North America and Europe. Some of the specific concerns you’ve told us about deal with difficulty finding groups in game, having resources to contribute to the overall server economy, and being able to gather strong enough forces to enjoy the end game content, particularly the Abyss PvP zone and Fortress Sieges. We heard your concern about this and did a comprehensive examination of all of our servers across North America and Europe. After reviewing all of the game, character, and server data we found that certain level ranges or classes had healthy numbers, but across ALL level ranges and professions most of our servers didn’t have ideal populations. After a score of meetings, it was decided that the best thing to do is to merge some of our servers so that we have fewer, fuller servers with characters (and players) that are balanced better in population across all levels and classes. The primary goal of merging the servers is to create an environment that gives you the best possible experience in Aion.

I don’t relish the idea of mergers. (It takes a lot of work to make them happen!) However, once it is complete you should notice improvements in each of the new server economies, an abundance of players to group and run instances with, a number of great Legions to join or people to form new ones with, and a more tightly knit community. When all is said and done, Aion will be a better game because of the server merge. We’re in the planning stages, and will have more information on the timing and execution in the coming weeks.

WoW teaches you to hate yourself while you grind your life away trying to get gear, honor points, and more gear. So a game claims it can do that better? No thanks.

After burning out on WoW I have almost no urge to play any time consuming videogame, or any videogame for that matter, ever again.

Aion's grindfest makes WoW's hardcore aspects look like shit.

I'm pretty sure EQ levels 1-15 make ALL of WoW's hardcore aspects look like shit. It's not hard to make WoW's hardcore aspects look like shit, because they ARE shit. Lowest common denominator shit.

yeah once again..I get screwed. Totally my fault..at least I didn't take the Star Trek Online bait.

Seriously..Aion...WAR...Conan. WTF am I thinking pre-ordering the collectors editions.. /wrists.

i pre-ordered warhammer.....

conan had the potential... too bad they didn't make the entire game like the first 20 levels.

It takes over a month of actual gameplay to hit max level in Aion, just like every other Korean game. I don't think it took 400 hours of game play to go from 1-15 in EQ.

WoW is just a grind but not as mind numbing as Aion's.

/crosses fingers for EA's Star Wars Old Republic MMO to be the WoW killer

I'm not sure they even want it to be a WoW killer. Supposedly there is an END.

Anyways. I will be pre-ordering that...Bioware has not let me down yet.

(2 years from now I'll be posting in a thread made by Sunny saying SWTOR...Wow killer it is not..complaining about how I always get burned)

Uhh.. I think you are highly confused if you interpreted any of that as a comparison from Aoin to EQ. It was a WoW bash, nothing more, nothing less. EQ in it's prime took five to six months, though, and that was just to hit 50. I was simply saying that comparing anything to WoW in the form of it's complexity or difficulty is somewhat comical. WoW scrapes the bottom of the barrel on both, which is subsequently why it's so widely played. Casual friendly, dumbed down, and anyone can eventually get all the cool items through grinding (eventually).

I didn't mind playing it for a month or 2. Got to level 40. That was enough to see most of the game.

And for what it's worth EQ was harder to level up in than Aion. The problem with EQ was not necessarily one of time, but one of limited resources. Uncamped mobs were a commodity that left a lot of players stuck at specific levels.

Same.

Would have stuck around more if rifting was made easier.

Jesus I hope not. I'm in bad need of a MMO fix and sure as hell don't want to re-enable EQ accounts for the 10th time. =/

I have the DVDs for Sentinel's Fate sitting on my desk right now, picked them from Gogamer on sale a few days ago. Need to re-activate my account when I have some time to play again.

Theres nothing wrong with having the game casual enough for everyone to play. Who here with any sort of RL commitments would want to play a game that you could never get anywhere without dedicating all your time to it. I think thats where WoW succeeded even to the dismay of the small population of people who say "WoW isnt hardcore enough". WoW even created the hardcore modes for those types of players. As a casual player, I have never been able to do one hardcore mode but I have been able to do ICC.

Aion was pretty looking- but I quickly saw it for what it truly was, nothing groundbreaking.

My problem with WoW right now is that everyone has more experience than I do. There is almost noone to explain things to me or help me. People are either rolling second or third characters or in RAIDing guilds. Maybe if I'd started WoW when it first came out I would be addicted to it right now, but I've subbed for a few different single months at different times and never been "addicted."

I played Aion for about 2 weeks before I got bored. I don't think I'll be trying another MMO until it has established itself, screw being an early adopter.

On the other hand, I've finally broken my WoW semi-addiction and haven't played in about two months. The huge amount of boredom in these two weeks between graduation and starting my job has almost driven me to play again, but I'm pretty sure I'll make it to Monday.

No surprise - I tried to enjoy Aion during the beta period..but it just wasn't fun...

New MMO's are like the new kid in school that everyone wants to know about and hang out with. However, after a few months - they realize he's not really that cool and they all go back to their comfort zone of "WoW". The new kid still has a few fans - but he just can't compete.

I said this at release, there will be no WoW killers, nobody else is capable of doing it. There is only Bioware with SW:TOR that could pull off something like that, but I doubt it. I'm sure ToR will be an epic game with a great story and plot, but it won't be pulling people off WoW in droves or offer long term development like WoW does. WoW is fun, easy to use and has an incredible amount of content (quests, zones in world, professions and rewards)- you cannot just create that overnight.

You're hoping for a WoW killer from....EA?!?!?!

Hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaa

I never played eve but swg is by far the best mmorpg I have played. Yeah it was a glitch fest but it was 100x more fun than any other mmorpg. At least it was original in gameplay and super ambitious. Games like wow and aion are just stale everquest rehashes.
