WOW just owned me

Well, actually, it's pretty much my fault.

A year ago a few of my friends were starting out on WOW. It looked cool, and I liked most of Blizzard's game, so being the idiot that I sometimes am, I bought a 6 month subscription. It cost me like $75 CAD or something.

I played the game for about 6 hours before I got right pissed off. Something about running back and forth multiple times to complete a single quest, in addition to getting my ass kicked by everything wasn't very appealing.

So I gave up playing, uninstalled and considered it a $75 lesson learned. That is, until I looked at my VISA statement and noticed I was just charged $75 again. It seems it's a recurring subscription.

So...I'm an idiot. How do I unsubscribe before I lose even more money?

So for a few years you've been getting charged $75 and never noticed until now?

I think it was just this one time. I'll have to go through my past statements to see if it has happened before, which wouldn't surprise me.

Log in to account management with your old login info.

I found that a few minutes ago. I had to convert my WOW account name over to a battle.net e-mail address, so I did that. Got the confirmation e-mail. Then I tried to recover my password and it said my account information was wrong. Erg, wtf. This shit is as hard to get rid of as a heroin addiction.

You might have luck emailing or calling them and explaining. I screwed up with an MMORPG (different company) and called immediately and got the $20 back.

They're good. The cancellation process almost guilted me into not following through with it, what with the crying animated character and all.

Looks like I've been charged three times. $77 when I initially signed up, $77 six months later, and $77 now. Boo.

It's my own fault. I wish I could have kept a closer eye on my statements, but the military has me moving so much I just have all my stuff mailed to my brother.

Pretty much all subscription services do recurring billing in some way. There probably was a notice he missed when he first signed up.

It's a convenience for players who don't want to be bothered manually renewing every payment cycle.

Especially since they'll likely be able to check/verify that you haven't been active/playing for the last 9 months.

Sorry, that's not going to work...The payment page makes it VERY clear its a recurring subscription...whether you actually play it or not for all this while is irrelevant.
