Just read your story and sounds like a complete screw up.

I have been to places like that where they would more prefer to save a little cash now and take the risk of losing a customer that would be worth a greater deal amount of cash in the future.

actually, I already pretty much felt this way about the local GMC dealer, so I guess maybe they lost my patronage even harder (or something)

I had a CSR for DaimlerChrysler tell me flat out that "the customer is almost never right" when I was on the phone with a warranty issue.
 
I have gotten shafted by companies here and there. But, and I am sure many others can say this as well, I worked five years in the retail business and then the mindset was, "The customer is not always right."

If you do some research or trade publications you will see it is pretty prevalent out there. Companies may not actually say it to the customer's face, but I can just about promise the majority of companies have that train of thought.
