Well, this guy is not so much an idiot but a kissass that shot himself in the foot. The entire episode actually started Monday. He just got hired and was being setup with a laptop. His boss (a douche bag BTW) hands me a old Comqrap Armada. WINCPUID indicated that its a P-100. The thing has 48MB of memory and a 1GB hard drive. In other words complete junk.

Basically procedure was broken here. All new hires are suppose to get a new computer through me so they can be productive from day 1. Not only was I not informed that there was a new hire but its obvious someone is cutting corners. For a second there appeared to be a glimmer of hope. The boss forget the poweron password and for 3 hours tried to fire up the computer with no luck. I was ecstatic, I told the new guy that I knew how to get the password off but the best thing to do is play dumb and get a new computer ordered and delivered by the end of the week. He agrees and told me that he was looking forward to a brand new IBM ThinkPad T20 with all the bells and whistles.

So what does this idiot do? He takes the thing to a shop where they charge him $100 to clear the password. Then he brings it to his boss and implies that I;m incompetant because I didn't know how to clear it. WTF!?!?!?!? I played dumb to help the guy and he stabs me in the back. I comfronted him and his response was that he wanted to do the right thing.

Anyway the final joke is on him. It seems the boss is so happy that its running that he cancelled the order for the new IBM. I was asked whether the computer could run all standard company softwhere. My answer is "Of Course It Can!!!!!" Hmmmm... did I for get to add "But Not Very Well" at the end? Basically this puppy runs like molassas. The new guy nearly fainted when he found out he is getting the old clunker back. He starts pleading that he can't travel with that thing because its too heavy, too slow, small screen, blah blah. He wanted me to meet with his boss to help him get the IBM again. Guess what buddy? I tried to help you and you tried to phuck me over. Now he is all nice and sucking up to me. God I gate a$$holes like that. Maybe its time to make sure he has a network connection. Hmmm... geez.. incompetant idiots like myself often can't tell the difference between 100BT Full-Duplex and 10BT Half-Duplex.......

Sometimes in IT one needs to be devious to retain sanity.

Of course ranting in the OT Forum helps too.

Windogg, sounds like a fine case of getting your just desserts. (His of course)!

Anybody that is that low should be forced to use a 'molasses in winter' machine like that.

Oh...man...I can't stand people like that. He definitely shot himself in the foot. Not only did he make an ass of himself, but made himself an enemy of the mighty IT...something most people wouldn't want, heh heh :)

Ah yes, the revenge of IT.

This happened once to a guy that backstabbed me after I helped him out.

Idiot on Phone: "I don't understand it, I keep losing my connection to the network."
Me (standing at Server closing his connections): "Huh, that's strange everything looks fine here. Try re-booting and log in again, you know how windows is."
Idiot on Phone after re-boot:"OK! I'm back up again!"
Idiot on Phone after I closed them again: "Damn, I just lost it again"
Me: "Re-boot again, I'll make a quick change and see how it works"
Idiot 3 hours later: "MAN, I don't know what you did but it works great now! Thanks!"
Me: "No problem, it's what they pay me for."
Idiot hangs up.
Me under my breath: "A$$hole."

Adul: PC orders go through another department so that mean I would have to resubmit all the paperwork back through procurement. It wouldn't be so bad if everything didn't go through Phoenix. The people there usually hate rush orders since those thathave been waiting have to wait longer. After what happened the first time, I'm sticking my neck out for that guy again. Its now between him and his boss.

Fathom4: LOL!!! I know that one:
(L)User: Is the network down?
Windogg: (Put 3" patch cable down) Uhh.. Only for you.

The thing I realized is that 90% of all the people are good. They use their computers for work, don't futz around, go through channels, and only declare emergencies when there is no other choice. Consequently, almost all of my contact is when there is a problem. There are several people I have lunch with and they are the nicest people but I see them too much since they never have a problem. Kinda sucks having to deal with the other 10% for 90% of the day. :(

Heh, never piss off the MIS guys... and don't piss off the finance people either. The CEO is okay, but just not the people holding your work and reason why you do the work. :D
