Wow Ipod shuffles are durable!

My shuffle was recharging, so it was sticking outside the front of my antec P-180 case. Im sitting messing around on the net, i took a stretch and *CRACK* i smacked my shuffle and cracked the usb dock bit and the plastic bit its attached too, off of the rest of it. I was like OH SH!T!!! NO!! I use the shuffle a lot! and it wouldnt really sucked to have broken it. But it just snapped right back into place, no broken plastic, it still plays too. Really well designed, half the other mp3 players wouldve snapped in half or broke in some unfixable way. Thats excellent design on apples part

I am more surprised that another plastic piece didn't break of the P180. I am soooo disappointed with mine.

Thats a negative. I had my shuffle only 2 months before it just stopped working and when i checked out the Apple forums there were hundreds just like me. The Shuffle is absolute garbage.

sounds like you got a dud. that sucks.

I hate the shuffles because they are hard to fix, they're not really worth fixing, and having no screen bothers me.

I'd much rather have a nano, I just wish the lcd's on them weren't so damn undurable.

Yeah, mine has been working fine for a year and a half now. Love it! Remember, the forums are the public recepticle of all that is bad - people voice their complaints on them. Think about the millions of Shuffle users who haven't had a problem. If your Shuffle stopped working in 2 months, it should still be under warranty - just get a replacement.

I got the 30 gig video and the screen is soooo easy to scratch. That's why I got one of these!

My P180 side panels have taken a beating. B/c they are always so freaking hard to pull off I get frustrated and just tear them off. I think I brok most of the small hook clips on the side panels.

Also the hinge door has been swung farther than it's designed to on more than one occasion. Also there is a small cylinder piece on the door that sticks out as to prevent the door from pushing too far into the case and that broke off too.

The thing I hate about the toughskin is it makes the 30 gig as fat as the 60. Also that little spacer you have to use will leave a HUGE permanent oval shaped scratch on the back of your ipod.

They are easy to scratch. That's why everyone who buys an iPod video/nano SHOULD BUY A CASE FOR IT!

I've got an evo iskin for my ipod video...

Haven't really had problems with mine. Seems pretty solid and pops right off. As for the shuffle it does look durable as a piece of plastic, but no lcd ftl.

I love my shuffle. I have never had a problem with it and it is a great workout companion 🙂

Yea, ive lost all the hooks on the side thats got the handscrews, i stood on one of the panels once and had to get a replacement as it cracked, ive dropped the other panel and the bottom of it cracked. Nice case, decent design, good cooling, not built with durability in mind i must agree....

Since you're the resident iPod guru, which case do you recommend? 🙂 (both hardcase and softcase, if possible)

Right now I'm using the sleeve that came with my 30GB iPod Video, but I'm looking for something better.

What you need is an invisibleSHIELD. $25 for full coverage on a 30gb iPod Video:

http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/APL6006.html

Basically it's heavy-duty Saran wrap. Scratchproof and helps reduce fingerprints/smudges. Adds virtually no thickness to your iPod. Photos here:

If you google around you'll see lots of neat video reviews of it, like this one:

As for a case, get whatever you want. The case is mainly to protect it from drops and getting squished in your bag. The invisibleSHIELD is for preventing scratches on the body and screen.
