WoW instance question

So last night I was helping a friiend finish the Van Cleef quest which I had already done.

I figured I would help him out and at the same time level up since im so close to the next level.

When we got int the instance i notice that i got no XP from any mob in the instance.

Is this typical or was something screwy?

I mean once you finish and instance and redo it you get no XP from killing mobs in it?

It sucked big time since its a long instance and I was not about to abandon my freind so I continued, but it was really frustrating.

look at the lvl of the mob (and the color of the number). if the number is gray bc they are much below your level, you dont get any exp 🙁

i undertand that but i wasnt getting any at all...i am level 27 and the elites on there are 20...i figured i would get some exp but i got nothing at all. 🙁

i checked the xp before i killed a mob and then after...

7 levels might be the range at which you stop getting XP. I did the Deadmines at level 25 and got XP from everything.

I didn't need the XP when I redid it, I was more interested in the loot. Ended up with the Emberstone Staff and the Corsair's shirt, Cookie's Stirring Rod dropped too but I was outrolled. It's pretty nice gear for the level.

Rolled a 1 on the Emberstone staff, but my party was awesome and let me have it since none of them were staff users 😀

grey mobs wont give xp. nothing tio do with it being an instance.

The level difference is six, i.e. Level 27-6 = Level 21, anything below this elite or not does gain you experince.

no it depends on your level

at 49 i still get exp fro lvl 40 mobs

i read that -7 was gray for lower levels

and at higher levels it is -9 or -10

What about loot? I did the Ogrimar Instance (lvl 14-18 i think) with my lvl 22 Warlock with a lvl 14 friend - but none of us got any loot besides Slime Goo and crap like that. We gave up after 10 enemies because we got nothing.

You will get loot, just no xp.

Good stuff only drops from certain mobs, usually the named ones. For example, in the Deadmines, the Pirates just drop cash and the occasional green item, but when you kill Mr Smite, Captain Greenskin, Cookie, and VanCleef, you get blue items.

LOL your not gonna get exp from L17-22 mobs at L27... your way too high...
they are grey to you.
