Let me preface this by stating that I am a total moron. I Went to the beach today and didn't put on sunscreen. Most of me was tanned pretty good so I thought I would be alright. Turns out that I wasn't tanned enough. I pretty much got burnt all over my body except for my lower legs and lower arms. Now I'm sitting here, after taking a cool shower, with liberal amounts of aloe gel spread all over my body. Is there anything else I can do to relieve the pain and reduce the redness? I'm more worried about the sunburn on my face and feet than anything..

One aspirin can decrease the severity of sunburn as well as discomfort. Plus you need to at least double your normal water intake after a sunburn.

Doesn't really matter if you put lotion on or not, you caught skin cancer the 1st time you went sun tanning.

You're gonna be in for a world of hurt for the next 3-5 days. What the hell were you thinking?

I'm pretty sure that I WASN'T thinking.

Did you intentionally do this, or did you just forget to bring some?

Oh I brought some, but I was caught up in having a good time and I just never applied it.

Haha that sucks. Last week I mowed the lawn with no shirt on (while smoking a cig, white trash FTW) and got my shoulders burnt super bad, they itched for awhile and now they're peeling. Weak.

EDIT: Plus I have light skin (Swedish) and burn easy

Just make sure you keep applying aloe over and over again to help minimize peeling/discomfort.

I put on sunscreen everyday. Seeing as how one of my professors two years ago has melenoma (skin cancer), I think it's prudent, plus, I prefer the pale look on myself.

I have two bottles of CVS aloe sitting on my bathroom counter... I'm good on aloe.

I went through this recently and really badly.

I tried everything from solarcaine, to moisturizers, to soaking, to cold wet washclothes, cucumber slices, tomatoe slices etc.

The absolute BEST way to deal with it was pure aloe vera, or as close as you can get for the burning and discomfort, and ibuprofin for the swelling, along with keeping a fan on you when you can.

I could write a journal on all the things I tried for the very reason I may get sunburned again, and when I do, I want to know exactly how to treat it. But instead of doing all that, you'll just have to take my word for it.

Aloe Vera gel, Ibuprofin, fan.

But during all my personal research, I came to the conclusion, sunburn is way easier to prevent than to "fix".

Thanks for the suggestions guys... I think I might go run over to my local CVS and pick up some stuff.

it might be too late, but when you put on aloe, it makes your skin peel.... not turn to a tan.
what i do, is put on heavy moisturizer on... also, swab yourself whith vinegar. it helps the burning.

Well, Nancy, some us still play WoW *and* get laid on a regular basis. Sorry to hear that you have time for neither. :(

lucky! It sucks...and you never think it will be bad until hours later when the damage is done and you are bright red and hurting.

Now that would make for an odd tanline.

Sunburn is weird. I have done a lot of yardwork in the past few days, and have gotten more sunlight in that time than was likely received in the few months prior. No burning. Just a light tan, and my skin is light, as in high-circulatory-system-visibility-light. I have no idea why I've not been baked to a crisp.
