I fall asleep, and then I 'wake up' in my sleep, realizing I am awake, but having no control over my body, as hard as I tried, I couldn't move my real body, I could only think. I also didn't have full control over my thoughts, all I could concentrate on was trying to get out of the state and wake up, it was kind of scary, I didn't want to stay in that state. However, it would have been interesting to stay and see if I could start a dream and have control in it. This state usually happens to me evey time I take early day naps. The article below says it's more likely to occur if you wake up, stay up for about a hour and then take a nap. It's different than those times I realize I'm having a dream while in a dream and then actually change the dream to my liking. Lucid Dreaming - a Trippy experience - Try it!

Anyone else have Lucid Dreams???

Are you like 85 years old? Why are you napping during the day?

Ah Lucid Dreaming, it has a name. :) Been doing that for years. (don't have the paralysis or anything, just semi-concious dreaming)

I've had that happen to me alot! I thought it was my youthful over-indulgences. Good to know I'm not alone.

Yeah, my heartbeat was crazy.

"To the sleep researcher, these strange phenomena are
remarkably reminiscent of another curious experience, called
sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis occurs sometimes when a person
is waking from or falling into REM sleep, the state in which most
vivid dreams occur. During REM sleep, the muscles of the body,
excluding the eye muscles and those responsible for circulation
and respiration, are immobilized by orders from a nerve center in
the lower brain. This prevents us from acting out our dreams.
Occasionally, this paralysis turns on or remains active while the
person's mind is fully awake and aware of the world." http://www.lucidity.com/NL32.OBEandLD.html

Other surveys also show that the
majority of OBEs occur when people are in bed, ill, or resting,
with a smaller percentage coming while the person is drugged or
medicated. (Green, 1968; Poynton, 1975; Blackmore, 1983

_______________

Yeah, I've heard about people have OBEs - Out of Body Experiences - on drugs, but they can also occure more frequently during meditation or resting. I have had these kind of experiences only a handful of times, they are different than body paralysis, but it's related. When these occur, my mind suddenly is going 100 miles a minute, and it gives the illusion of understanding, but it only lasts a short amount of time, and then I snap back into reality or sleep, but I remember when I had OBEs, I also had body paralysis.
