Wow, I thought Picasa was just some lame gimmick

What is so good about it? I have no issues organizing my pictures by folder, browsing them in the folders, and using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to view them, rotate them, print them, etc. What would Picasa offer me? It wouldn't find anything new for me since I keep my pictures fairly organized.

I have about 150GB of pictures on my comp. I think picasa would be scanning for two days straight just to find all of the pictures.
150GB?!?!?!?!?!:Q how the hell do u have 150GB of pics on ur comp? i thought we had a lot of pics at something like 2000pics at 3GB. but 150GB and 13.6GB? how many pics is that?

About 300,000 🙂
Newsgroups FTW!
And I store a lot of pics that I take with my DSLR.

full-length movies FTW!!!
NEWSGROUPS???? How much pron do you need?!?
Most of it are artsy model shots.
sample pic 🙂
Basically these guys scans like hudreds of these japanese photobooks and posts them on newsgroups. I generally download them in a batch of 1-2GB at a time.

Not for the people like me who didn't stay on the ball with organizing their pictures. Picasa has been a great help getting my pictures organized so I can start making backups.

I don't know why I held out for so long, I usually adopt Google's new stuff fairly quickly. But I just got done installing and playing around with Picassa2 and that is a friggen amazing program!

It has been years since I've seen some of the pics it scrounged up from the barren wasteland of my 300gig HD. And what-more, It was very enjoyable browsing the super smooth interface checking out all my old pics. I especially enjoy rotating the pics 😛

Random pic I found this evening. That was inside a 'haunted' house. Pretty creepy crap actually, many of the rooms had a bunch of piles of crap everywhere, but there was one room (the room just to the left of where I'm standing) where it was totally empty except for two chairs in the center of the room on top of a big black circle painted on the floor :Q It looks bright in there, but that was just because of the flash, it was creepy dark

Anyways, the moral of the story: Everything Google touches does in fact turn to gold.

Uhh, Google aquired the company the originally made Picasa. I'd just call it a smart investment.

thats it?

my PC has a almost a terabyte of storage and MOST of that is pics...
there are folders within folders that each have 25k pics in each one..

my epeener is bigger than yours

Picassa was too slow for me over the network (store pics on home server). It is acceptably slow, though, now that I've upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet. However, I haven't taken the time to let it try to index everything yet because I think it would disabled my computer if I let it loose on the whole collection.

i want to see more pics of that house... especially the two chair thing

fireplace - that was crazy because behind him looks like a bunch of blood, but we didn't notice it until we went home and looked at the pics, so we went back later that night to check it out again. I'm still not sure what that red splatter is. You can tell how dark it was though because of how terrible the red eye is (we look so spaced out in all the pics)

empty room black circle - that was the empty room, I can't remember why exactly but we moved the chairs outta the circle... we found that book my bud is holding in that room as well. I can't remember what was in the book 🙁 to long ago.

wierdest paint job - just random blotches of red paint all over the place. Walls all painted black

EDIT: front of the house it had a wierd stained glass pic on the front door, I think it was supposed to be Jesus, but it looked way screwed up

The room with the circle and the black paint is a little disconcerting, but the last pic (front of the house) is just plain scary. The stained glass window is the only intact window in the house, on the front door, and it looks like Jesus, but it's all fvcked up. You've got bigger balls than me, man, for going into that house at night.

If i have the majority of my important photo's indexed by folder...

..and i normally browse using that wonderful "irfanview" program.

Any reason for this?

(hell, i'll give it a shot anyway)

Response:
Ack, it did find every single pic, (and even all of my movie files for some reason)

The problem is, it found a ton of pictures that were purely sprites for a game or interface graphics, "ton" = more than just a couple thousand.

I'll most likely get rid of it, as it doesn't seem that useful given my situation, but i'll let it finish scanning first.

I really like that pic 🙂 maybe not 150 gigs worth, but that's a nice pic to look at.

yeah, it found all my cd covors and movies which was somewhat annoying, but overall I would rather browse all that shiz in Picasa than in windows folders.
