How old school is that! Took 15 minutes for a 295K file between two routers. You figure for as much as these stupid routers cost, they could at least support Z-Modem heheh

I forgot...some people here were probably 5 years old when you had to use XModem.

See kiddies, back before the Internet, people could dial into online services and electronic "BBS"'s, which were like mini-Internets. These services had chat lines, forums, games, and file libraries. Since FTP wasn't standard at the time, there were several protocols used to download files on your 2400bps modem. One method was called XModem, which would download your file 1K as a time, then check it to make sure it downloaded in tact. YModem came out after that, and was a bit faster, and then finally ZModem appears and was quite zippy.

We have some old Tierra routers that only use XModem to accept profiles. The process just got me all nostalgic, so I thought I'd share :)

The field techs use XModem to transfer configs and firmware to devices all the time. It's painfully slow.

If you had a Mac all you needed to do was share it via Appletalk. Can't even do something that simple on a PeeCee?

I was surfing the web from home up to 1998 with a PC XT and xmodem. I would log into a mainframe and then run the Charlette browser. The web looks a bit different on a monchrome text only green screen but it was quick (14k modem). I found I could create/edit webpages just fine but I had to wait until I got to work in order to see what they looked like.

Man, that goes back a ways. If I had to use xmodem today, I'd have to go to some Gopher site to get instructions. :)

yeah, the single line is a bunny with a crepe on its head, pancakes are much thicker so you need the double line for a pancake

what a n00b
