I have seagate IV barracuda 40GB 7200RPm drive, with out a cooler my drive would get hot enuf to fry eggs on. So i bought a cheap $10 cooler from newegg.com, its works great, my drive runs for days and its barely warm to touch!
Yes, but don't forget that now all that hot air is being blown to the CPU and the videocard. That's why it's better to buy an HD cooler that will suck cool air in from the case or will exhaust hot air from underneath the HD into the outside world.
