Wow, forgive me for repost but just learned both Epox and Chaintech are dead, Abit was bought out....

I think the Asus name is going away, but the company will still be there. It's going to be split into three different companies though, each with different names.

What about Amptron? Those were some crappy boards.

i think amptron was just rebadged ecs boards. i had one of their sdram w/ ddr combo boards back in the day. i went to their site, i think they make lcds now.

I was sorry to see Iwill go away. I used several of their boards for heavy use office machines. Always stable, reliable boards.

I have a file drawer with some really old stuff in it. One item is for a P-II mb, copyright is for QVC Corp.. I guess I used it somewhere, but I don't remember.

Most of my old mb manuals do not have a manufacturer's name on them (Amptron does). And none have any contact or tech support info in them.

Did you just pull that FUD out of your ass or something? 'cause last time I checked Asus has one of the largest chunks of motherboard market share.

I had a MPX-2 and it was by far the best MPX SMP board for the AMD MP platform.

he's sort of right in that Asus is splitting into 3 different business units with different names.
I think that 1 is retaining the Asus brand though for retail sales.

Yep, I remember reading about this a few weeks ago. Here's the full article.

Excerpt:
As of the 1st January of 2008, Asustek Computer was split into three separate companies each targeting their own directions. Asustek Computer will continue to operate its Asus brand business, which involves a broad lineup of products, including computer mainboards and add-in-cards, notebooks and smartphones, servers and communication equipment as well as multimedia and consumer electronics devices. The newly formed Pegatron Technology Corp. will produce PC-related devices, such as mainboards and add-in-cards for third party customers, whereas the newly created Unihan Technology Corp. will produce computer cases, various modules as well as take over non-PC contract manufacturing business.

Cliff notes:
- ASUS
- Pegatron
- Unihan

We should all be glad that ASUS decided to keep the least idiotic-sounding name for their core motherboard business line. The second name one evokes "Transformers...Robots in Disguise!!".

Speaking of Transformers, I didn't see any mention of Albatron. Are they still around?

Maybe you could do a little research? I dunno, just a suggestion.

Announced as far back as July last year.

The Asus division will make Asus branded computers. The motherboard manufacturing part will be named "Pegatron" and "Unihan" will handle other components.
