A guy at work got Tilt, it's the first time I have ever seen one. Does anyone here have one? Do you like it?

The tilt is pretty cool, but it still runs Windows Mobile. The main difference that the iPhone brings to the table is software - usability. The point is that it's easy to use, that's why it's so popular ;)

Don't forget marketing and "it" factor in terms of the iPhone's popularity. I don't exactly remember the razr being all to great to use but it certainly sold like wildfire.

I got one off fleabay (I know, I know) for $300. Works well enough, although I mainly bought it for the internal GPS + slide-out qwerty keyboard. The amount of customization is unreal. First thing you need to do, however, is flash it with a cooked rom to remove the AT&T crapware.

The only issue is that it is missing the video drivers so some stuff is really slow/laggy. (camera, some games, etc)

Check http://www.xda-developers.com for more info.

WinMo is "easy to use" and has MUCH more expandability when compared to the iPhone. I have a HTC Mogul w/ Sprint (Tilt minus tilting screen and a little less RAM), and I've played with an iPhone extensively (I work for a Mac school, so I use them daily), and I'd much rather have my Mogul. I can tether wireless (ICSControl or WMWiFiRouter), bluetooth, or USB, use GPS (built in) with Google Map, Navizon (for finding access points and cell towers), and do MUCH more than I can with the iPhone.

Is the iPhone sexy? Yes.
Is WinMo more expandable and customizable? Yes.

Now that's not to say it won't all change with the App Store.
But I still pay $35/mo for 500 minutes, 200 texts, unlimited data/tethering, and a free phone, while the iPhone is ~$400 and $60/mo...

I have one - bought it from someone here at AT FS/T. I researched it for months before I finally bought it, after having repeatedly come to the conclusion that there is no better phone on the market for my needs. I've only had it for a week or so, but so far it seems that my preliminary findings are correct... that it is absolutely awesome. That said, I immediately factory-reset it and started over with the stock HTC ROM, minus the AT&T Bloatware customizations.

Hopefully something that HTC will fix. You're lucky, the Tilt is relatively new. They've all but forgotten about the Mogul...RevA & GPS is probably the last update we get, if we get the vid fix it'll be a miracle...

What do you actually use yours for? I'm interested to see what apps people use on a regular basis on their phones. Even with my iPhone, I mainly just use the cell phone & email.

I'm a pinball fanatic. If Williams' High Speed, F14 Tomcat, or Gottlieb's Hollywood Heat were like the Starfighter, I would have been abducted 20 years ago to help out a civilization in peril.

Imagine a pinball machine on a pitching ship! Of course if billiards tables can be gimballed so can pinball playboards. ;)

you dont even have to flash it to get rid of the AT&T crapware... you just have to do a hard reset followed by a reset during the next boot before AT&T stuff installs

Well, with built in GPS:
Google Maps
Navizon (they've got a rewards program where you keep the wifi on and map AP, get 10,000 points, get $20..if you sign up, please use my referral code: 5B595F5B575A)
Windows Live

PocketCaster (webcam over EVDO RevA)
WMWiFiRouter (for tethering over WiFi)

and Palm has MUCH more expandability than WinMo. I wanted a flash light app for my Moto Q, I couldn't find a free one. No decent software is free for WinMO and the built in crap is a royal joke, especially the SMS. And when I found a nice threaded SMS proggy Microsoft borked something in the the netframe update and it stopped working, I waited a year and nobody seemed to be able to get threaded SMS like on a Palm back in WM, so I threw my Q out the window.

WINMO = teh sucks bad. Palm all the way baby.

I previously had a Treo 680, and I'm using the Tilt as a replacement. In the order I use them, from most frequent to least:

- FlexMail for e-mail
- Opera for web (though sometimes PIE... I don't like either of them)
- Pocket Informant for Calendar/Journal/Contacts
- Phone
- SplashID for identification/authentication management
- Pocket Quicken for financial stuff
- PocketIRC and IM+ for chatting :)

and one of the main reasons that I got the phone was because of the onboard GPS. I've fooled around with Google maps so far, and I think that I might look into other GPS-enabled software, as well as 3dtracking/AccuTracking.

There are some aspects of my Treo that I *badly* miss... like the form factor. And part of me misses Palm OS. But... Palm just wasn't cutting it for me. I'm happier now. We'll see where I am a month or two from now. ;)

I have mixed feelings about onboard GPS systems. I've used various systems and haven't really liked any of them. So far my favorite combo is the iPhone's Google Maps + my Garmin Nuvi GPS. The dedicated GPS has proved to be the best system while actually en route, but the iPhone is far better at looking up specific POI's since you can query Google's online database (then punch it into the Garmin). I really wish Garmin would team up with Google Maps and offer an in-dash solution with EVDO/EDGE/3G updates, lol.

I'm pretty happy with my unlocked iPhone, not to mention that I have to contract and didn't pay full price (refurb in great condition).
The Tilt is nice, but seems a little big, and I don't need the keyboard.

I definitely think that dedicated GPS navigation devices are best for car/driving navigation. I want a GPS onboard because of AccuTracking (or some such technology - reading more about that will certainly consume vast amounts of my time for the near future) because of a few people that have it out for me IRL. If I were to fail to show up somewhere, the tracking log might be of some assistance in locating me. And also because there are some times that I'm not in my own vehicle, and I'd like to get the directions to some place -- using Google maps for navigation on my Tilt would definitely be better than having no navigation assistance at all.
