As you know I'm shopping for a ring, budgeted at $10K~.

I just found out my Discover Card cash back is insane tomorrow. So Bluenile purchases give a 5% CB on whole amount, and another $75 back for October-December online shopping special, and tomorrow, there's 2% CB special on whole amount again. And you got the normal 1% CB. And finally, Bluenile doesn't collect tax to residence.

So I saved $875 for nothing. HOLY CHRIST. If I bought the ring in NYC, it would've been $850~.

So I saved $1700, just like that. Holy god damn.

Yup, with Discover Card you really have to make an effort to stack %back bonuses when available. It makes a huge difference sometimes.

damn wish I had a discover card now LOL

Hey Ns1, BlueNile bonus 5% CB is static, not a temporary promotion. And you got 1% on top. So it's 6% at very least, on whole amount.

(Well 5% is up to $12,500, 1% unlimited)

Definitely worth it to apply for Discover just for ring shopping. $750 cash back just like that if you spend their maximum.

And BlueNile is just an amazing vendor, blows all retail shops out of water for price (-20%~)

When an internet company operates on the kind of margins that Bluenile does, they can easily keep that 5% static. The markups on diamonds and jewelry are obscene. I don't even like to where a watch, but fortunately when I was buying an engagement ring I had a jew-friend in the business who sold me diamonds in between the wholesalers and the retailers, all from the comfort of his home too as he knows I hate shopping too.

The markup stories he told me were crazy, but they can get away with it for several good reasons too.

Congrats, Z on your engagement.

Even with the cash back though, bluenile is overpriced like crazy

Diamonds in general are overpriced useless crap. That being said, BN is one of the cheapest diamonds you can find vs retail and other online vendors.

I'm checking solomon brothers website ( in search of a ring/diamond ) and their prices seem ok.

Still searching locally and online. It's a pain in the ass.
