Wow, custom framing is $$$$$$$$$$.

I ordered a Top Gun poster from art.com last week. Top Gun is my favorite movie of all time, and I've wanted to get a poster for a while, but some idiots at the advertising agency back in 1986 decided to make the poster the strangest size I've ever seen (26x38). There are absolutely no ready made frames for that size, so I went to Michael's Arts and Crafts (the big chain store) yesterday to get it framed, because they're having a 50% off custom framing sale.

I picked out a matte black frame and regular glass (basically the cheapest frame they have), and the total for the entire order is $113 - and that includes the 50% discount! I can't believe framing is that expensive! Granted, it's an extremely big poster, but under normal non-sale circumstances, I can't see myself spending $250 to frame a $15 poster. The lady in front of me spent $320 on a gilded frame for an oil painting! :Q

Either way, I can't wait to get the poster back - it's gonna look great in my room!

couldn't you just get it laminated and be satisfied?
No, because I want to keep this poster for a long time, and lamination carries risks of creases, yellowing, and curling.

you could have bought the poster and laminated it 5 times for what you paid, and i guarantee in 5 years you won't want it

Considering that I paid $113 for the framing, I hope I still want it in 5 years! 🙂

Personally, I would've gotten it mounted on a board instead of framed...a movie poster in a frame looks kind of funny.
The poster will be mounted on a fiberboard piece inside the frame (I asked what "mounting" in the invoice meant), so if I really want to, I can take the poster out of the frame and just hang it mounted.
