I switched auto insurance. when i was with Liberty Mutual, i had to do all the paper work to switch. With Geico....they do it all the work for you. I did not know this and they canceled my plan with progressive 2 weeks before my new policy would start (starts tomorrow). i just signed into progressive to get the paper work and they said my policy was canceled 2 weeks ago. This means i have been driving illegally for the past 2 weeks.... how i was not pulled over and bent over....I have no idea....

But they don't run every single person's plate as they see them. So.....

do you really think cops have the time or inclination to run the plates of people they're not otherwise interested in pulling over?

Yup, that's all cops do. Sit around rapidly entering the license plate of every single car they see while driving. Because the police are actually robots. From space.

You're paranoid.

You didn't make it especially clear that you are switching from Progressive to Geico. I thought you were with Lib mutual for a minute.
I've always been with State Farm but i've never had a claim so I don't know if they're easy to work with. Hope I never find out

if they wanted to do that, they would use a computer system to scan the plates and run them
that is the system the Philadelphia parking authority uses, they have it installed in vans and a camera scans the plates as they drive the streets, whenever they find a plate on a car that has excessive unpaid parking tickets, they stop and boot the car

http://www.aetv.com/parking-wars/

Just when you thought it was safe to park again in Philly...PARKING WARS returns, more riotous than ever! The people you love to hate - the men and women of the Philadelphia Parking Authority - are back, ticketing, booting and towing the cars of problem parkers who express their outrage in furious Philly fashion.

I went almost a year because AAA dropped my car when they should have added it onto my homeowners policy and never told me about it.

they dont have to run your plates to tell you your sticker is about to expire... its color coded. They can spot check from from a considerable distance and know its about to expire.

cop was behind me the whole time....

What is so hard to understand here? Police do standard spot checks on plates all the time. They have cameras that run the license plate numbers. The techonology has been here for that past 3 years.

I've driven around with "expired" tags (not really expired, just didn't put the sticker on yet) and the cop was right behind me and never pulled me over.

It's very random, when I was poor I drove around with tags almost 3 year expired until I finally got pulled over. Some people get pulled over 90 days expired. I saw a car recently with 2002 tags. That person obviously either doesn't drive much at all, or has the best luck in the world.
