I believe China has a guideline for how much cash in fraud constitutes an execution.

I believe its not that much though. Something like 1 million RMB, which is only about 120,000 US.

120,000 US$ can get you pretty far when living in China.

Depends on the city but yes.

this is nothing. you know how they executed people in the old days, right? strap all four extremities to two horse driven wagons in opposite directions and pull! i'd like to strap ken lay down.

I'm not joking at all. I think the entire world, especially the US, is suffering from severe wussyfication and needs a bit of a change for better social progression. People seriously need to take responsibility for their own actions and should take punishments without question. No more human rights BS, ban on ridiculous lawsuits etc.

That might be swinging too far in the other direction, but you're right. Our country is seriously fvcked up when someone does less time in prison for stealing half a billion dollars than someone who steals $25 and buys crack with it.

(oh, of course, no rich people ever do any drugs... And, it's not "stealing" - it's "defrauding" and "embezzling.")

I think it's time for people to stand up and say "Hey! We want our prison sentences to make sense!"
So many other punishments are so wayyyy out of whack. (You can do more time in prison for beating a dog than for beating a child.)

If we were more serious about crime here then the execs at Worldcom and Enron, for instance, might have thought twice about f^cking countless innocent people if they knew the end result was a bullet to the brain.
DrPizza is absolutely right in that our sentencing guidelines are unfair to say the least and weighted for the rich and powerful.

So tossing people through meat grinders de-wussifies them? Get a grip, man. Even supposing that I approve of capital punishment (I'm undecided), what's the point of torturing somebody (or otherwise doing harm to/humiliating) who's already going to die? Does it make you feel better? In which case the murder is for revenge, not for justice. And if it doesn't make you feel better, why do it? Our society is supposed to be civilized, which is why executions don't happen in the town square anymore.

I totally agree that the US is not tough enough. The effect of Capital Punishment is definitely debatable...but I know it would deter me.

I'm all for tough on crimes like that. The only problem I have is we have to be 100% certain that they did commit it.
