Bump for the morning :)

I never really substantiated it in my head that the K8 Sledgehammer is going to have 2 processors in one core, even though I remember hearing it before. That is really, really.. cool. :)

Hmm.. I wonder if the K8 is going to be socket-A? That would rule.

Edit: maybe 2 cores in one processor is more accurate, heh

Its not exactly on chip SMP. That would be what the IBM Power4 processors will be doing. According to the article, its a cross between that and on-chip SMT, which is what the Alpha 21464 is doing. Both methods are very impressive, so I would think what AMD is doing will be very impressive too, assuming it has enough memory bandwidth to sustain it.

The unified L1 cache for multiple cores is the coolest idea to me out of all that.

Its not really unified, if you look at the diagram. It still uses the standard Harvard split cache architecture(separate I-cache and D-cache). However, according to the diagram, the cache will be shared between the 2 "cores". Apparently its multi-ported, so that's cool.

AMD is fuxored...don't you know that Rambus owns the patent to SMP? I hear that they also own the rights to integrated logic circuits.

No it wont run on Socket A. It will run on a new Lightning Data Bus or something, meaning a new socket./

TI had those patents. After some court decisions it turned out patents are unenforceable.
Too broad or something. Hope it will be the same with Rambus.
