I saw the northern lights a lot when i was stationed in ND. It was always freaky and beautiful, especially when they moved across the sky like waves or giant candle flames.
I saw them for the first time in my life a few months ago, and I'm in southern MI. the trick is to get out into the country a bit, and have a clear view of the northern sky w/no lights arround you. It was amazing!
I finally saw the Northern Lights a few months ago, and it was simply amazing. They look cool in photographs, but in real life they're just breathtaking. They move and flicker and undulate and it's really quite hypnotizing.
