Wow, Catalyst v5.6 accelerates HD WMV on my 9800 Pro!

Wow, it really does work. I downloaded the new Catalyst v5.6, installed the updated DRM and Windows Media Player 10 Hotfix (the links are all on ATI's website at the Catalyst v5.6 download page) and now I can play HD WMV files without stuttering!

On my Athlon XP 2700+ with 1.5 GB memory, I used to get around 99% to 100% cpu utililization when playing the Batman Begins trailer

Now I am getting around 60% to 80% cpu utilization. Pretty impressive.

Has everyone else experienced similar results? I'm pleasantly pleased with this new feature because it's been so long in coming that I was beginning to doubt if it really worked.

My HD playback is worse with the 5.6's.. Haven't tried till I just looked at this thread..

The BBC 1080p H264 just ran at only 5fps..

I was able to push 15-20 before..

Might switch back to 5.5 and check..

Nice, I just tried this and I am pretty sure its worked. Played through some vids and they did seem a bit smoother (though i dont have any numbers before and after). Worth the download!

works perfectly, 1080p WMV-HD smooth as butter where it was choppy as hell before (CoralReef), dropped CPU usage by about 30% 😀

So that function was there all the time? Just MS being slow with support for it i guess...

any way it's awesome 😀

Unfortunately for me, I can't install the DRM update and the DVXA update for WMP10, because I'm running Windows XP x64 Edition. They just won't install. ;\

CoralReef 1080p, which is the most intensive 1080p trailer i've found so far...and i usually sit in the mid sixties CPU usage wise now 😀

with 720p i'm usually below 30%, thankyou Microsoft for finally bringing this out 🙂

So much for the argument by a few umm fans that I have read from stating that it did not matter that Nvidia lied about this feature since Ati did not have it either 😛.

Apparently Ati does have this feature, even as far back as thier 9x serries.

Good job Ati 🙂
