WoW Blizzards downloader sucks

Blizzards nifty peer to peer patch downloading system that you are forced to use sucks.

I'm getting a whopping 33KB/s download rate (kinda - it goes back and forth from that to 0KB/s). By comparison I can usually pull 400-600KB/s off of fast sites or Steam.

Don't bother trying to ask Blizzard about it either. You get the usual crap: check your firewall/router, disable background apps yada yada. The final tech support answer is, "Go to our forums and ask someone". Grrr.

It appears that maybe one in say 50 connections are actually transferring data. The connections that appear to be working well are pretty much useless since once their "chunk" of data is done transferring they disconnect rather than pickup a new one.

My upload is pretty crappy too. It's pulling like 24KB/s. I don't remember off the top of my head what my upload cap is at my ISP, but that ain't it.

So in summary:
This thing is a chunk of sh1t. I generally like Blizzard but I'm going to be good and irritated by the time my game starts. Hopefully they've done their usual quality job on the game so I'll forget about this.

My ISP pretty much trottles BT traffic so that my upload rate is usually 0. I always have to find alternate ways of getting the patches...

...besure you open the bt ports. I get 200k easy. 🙂
Am I the only one laughing at the irony here? 😛

Check filefront.com, they have all of the patches released so far. I've heard that fileplanet.com has the patches as well, but the queues can take forever if you don't have a subscription already.

My friend gave me his 10 day pass, where can I download the game to play? Or do I need to install the game with his cds and then play?

ugh. He's far.

The retail version is the same as the Open Beta client, if you can find the US Open Beta (v1.0.1 I believe) you can login and it will download the full patch for you.

Fileplanet use to have the full OB client for download.

*sigh*

*BRILLIANT* I am absolutely flattened that I never thought of opening the ports!!!:roll::roll:

Blizzard's reasoning for this method over a simple download server was the size and number of patches would cost too much. Gee, that's funny I thought that's what my 15 bucks each month, every month was supposed to cover. Tell you what. How about you give me my 15 bucks back each month and I'll supply the bandwidth (at your d/l rates) for 10 other players off my residential cable modem. Deal?

!@#$!$! bitches.

grrr. It's done and over with at least.

Relax, it sounds like a little bit of time away from WoW could do you good.

Lol, down boy! 😀 Did you forward all the ports that they want, or just the traditional (6881+) BT ports? Anyway, I think it's a great idea. Money that would otherwise be spent providing a ridiculous amount of bandwidth for the 1-2 patch days a month when it was necessary can go toward providing a better gaming experience. Their downloader generally caps my 1.5mb downstream.

onsidering how crappy FP is, I PREFER using BT to download patches, it's usually quicker.
Full speed on UT2k4 patch vs maybe 20KB/s + 30 min wait on FP. No contest.
