So I can't figure this out and I want to see if there are any final steps I can do before doing the dreaded RMA with Asus.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Black_screen_crash

While playing:

  • The screen/monitor goes into a permanent 'sleep' mode, turns black, and cannot be removed from this state. Sometimes the cursor can still be seen and moved.
  • The sound effects, background music, or any other audio in the game comes out of the speakers, but repeats itself in a choppy manner (sometimes.)
  • A reboot is necessary to unfreeze the game, causing the player to most likely be killed if he is in a battle.

That is exactly what happens with me. It is usually random but last night it kept happening when I was loading into new zones.

So far I've done a clean install of my video drivers, my sound drivers, and a clean install of WoW and none of that has worked.

I tried bumping the minimum voltage on my card to 1000mV from 900 and that did not work.

Temperatures on the card are at about 73 degrees C at load.

This does NOT happen in any other game nor does it happen when I run FurMark.

I've un-OCed my CPU to stock and that did not help.

Windowed mode. Full screen mode. No sound. Nada works.

Ideas? I really don't want to do the ASUS RMA just because of the horror stories.

I think I read somewhere that a monitoring program causes this sometimes... can't remember which one. If you have any programs running that monitor temps or FPS, try closing them.
