Wow...Audi actually made a car that I find appealing to look at

BTW, it's been a while A5 has been around (since 2007). Just it's darn hard to see around as its sales figure represents (less than 30k sold so far, IIRC).

thats the first time Ive heard someone complain about Audi's interiors.

Material is good, but too simple/boring (so does my BMW). And also, I don't like they use too much red/orange color in the interior. I just feel much better when I sit in Infiniti or Lexus.

For me (A5, G37 or IS350 on my shopping list for this winter), the biggest downside of A5 is interior (the second being it German. I want to try something else since my current car is German).

My 07 M Coupe's interior is VERY boring.

Quite literally, it's almost identical to my friend's '00 E46 interior.

Nearly exact same panel, instrument/gauge placement. Fortunately, the interior is near the bottom in terms of importance when I car shop.

A friend of mine recently picked up an A5 and I must say, Audi does interiors right. Perfect placement of everything. Simple yet elegant.

Well around it here it was due to limited supply.

Same here in So Cal.

There was literally no wiggle room when my buddy got his A5.

Go for the S5

A coworkers has one... $55k for what you get, not worth the money. Very small on the interior. AWD doesn't work that well (We live in Alaska), slips more than a subaru for instance (I can't beleive I just said that...).

On a more personal note, I don't like the look of his... it's yellow. 😛

Completely agree.

The huge problem I have with the A5/S5 is that on a price/performance ratio, the 335 teabags it in every way imaginable.

S5 is relative to the 335 yet is a whopping 10 grand more. The S used to be on par with the M but that just isn't happening with these two models.

Agree, that is why I'm waiting for the RS5. Rumor has it that the RS5 is pegged around 500bhp.

the RS has always been competition to the //M
That's why the RS4 and M3 are at similar levels price and performance wise. Granted the RS6 is a helluva lot more expensive than the M5...

RS6 is quite a lot more fast though. And, if I recall, more spacey. However, the RS6 has that slosh-tastic tiptronic torque converter. 'Least the M5 has a 6 spd manual option.

I think that's the S5 Cabriolet.

It produces a little less horsepower than the coupe.

My best friend just sold his S5 Cab for basically nothing. He didn't know I was in the mkt for a car. I wish I had gotten in on it.

correct. in fact, the upcoming S4 has a supercharged V6. audi is looking to shave weight off of its entire model line by 2014, with the 2014 S4 and S5 planned to have turbo fours :Q

wtf?????? I'm not a fan of audi, but I can at least respect the S/RS lines....but turbo fours?? Are they basically throwing in the towel then and saying they can't compete with the Ms? I mean, if they want to appeal to a different market, that's cool, it's just weird to see.

I think it's a different approach. BMW was mentioning returning to their 1960/70's approach with the highly tune four cylinders--only going the way of these higher powered japanese tuners and making the cam shafts very well forged, and turbo'ing the crap out of them.

Interesting retro ideas on BMW's part, we'll see if it actually comes to fruition.

Meanwhile, the S class of Audi more of a chance for Audi to get some money by selling reasonable performance and looks, with a cheaper car. The RS models are their real M fighters.

did you read my comment or the article? audi is looking to take 800lbs of the S5. 800!!!. Now whether they'll actually be able to do it is another thing entirely, but the fact remains that audi is looking to make lighter cars with smaller, turbo'ed engines. I'd say the RS's do a fine job of competing with the Ms.

What does BMW have to compete with the R8? Oh right... 😉

Audi didn't have anything either, until they bought Lamborghini.
