Slashdot has the (poorly written and confusing) write-up.

"Wow...who didn't see this one coming? The players on the World of Warcraft Medivh server opened the gates to AQ. What happened next? The server crashed repeatedly. Why create content the servers can't handle? The very first time I read about this patch, I knew the servers would crash. The more people who open the gates, the more angry customers Blizzard will have in my opinion. With 5million+ subscribers, you would think Blizzard would have the best servers/connection money can buy. Although, I'm sure it's more complicated than simply plugging in a few ram chips and faster processors though. Most of the people involved in the raid are having a great time though. Could this be the most epic battle ever introduced to the mmorpg market? All signs point to yes. Let's see how long the mobs will respawn. Hopefully, the people of the Medivh server haven't seen anything yet. Either way, I would hate to be a network admin for Blizzard atm. ^_^ Here are some pics of the event. Thanks go out to all of those who took these pics.

There is a video of some of the stuff posted on filefront. Nothing spectacular though. I'm guessing all the good vid recording folks were having lag issues the whole time.

Will wait to see what comes out of Mannaroth realm, since they are at 99% right now.

I wouldnt know, I spend 10 mins authenticating, 30 mins getting my char screen, and 45 mins in a queue to actually play. Once this happens and I log into IF, the usual disconnect issue happens and I am back at it. Oh wait, I am not, I havent logged in in 2 weeks because of the above issues.

/cancel is getting easier by the day.

just for the opening of the gates of AQ, for just one day, the servers should prevent anybody who is less than level 60 from playing :).... and auto teleport them to silithus

I think I've onyl ever waited in queue once the entire time I've been playing, and I didn't bother waiting, jsut logged in a couple hours later and all was well. Also my server uptime's been great too, so I'm really not complaining.

I get a ~5 minute queue on Friday/Sat nights, but that's about it.

Wish some of you would stop bitching and cancel your account already so there's one less person in the queue ahead of me. :D

The reason it was crashing is because TONS of people were making level 1's to go watch the gates open. The GM's pretty much kicked out anyone under elvel 30 from the zone and disabled the creation of new characters for the server.

WoW: AQ Gates open - massive server crashes
Bit of a misnomer - massive server crashes are a matter of course in WoW, they have nothing to do with AQ.

Same with me, and it's not consistent either.

Sometimes I get queued Fri/Sat night, sometimes I don't.
