Wow.... Applecare ROCKS!

Sent my Macbook in for a small crack in the bottom of the case (seemed to be heat related as it was near the vents in the back) at the end of last week. I am 3 months outside my warranty, but they covered it anyway.

Today I get my Macbook back, not only did they replace the bottom case, but they replaced the top, keyboard, palm rest and everything else. The laptop looks BRAND new again. Rock On!

Damn that is awesome. I've had nothing but good experiences as well (returned an iPod video back in the day)

Yep. And considering I was about to list it up for sale, hopefully will make the sale a bit easier.

I thought appleCare doesnt deal with cosmetic damages? Or was it because the crack was near the vents?

The white MacBooks (and maybe the black one; I'm not sure about that) have a penchant for cracking. Apple has acknowledged this, and is replacing them as long as it is not obviously caused by physical damage.

Oh, the irony...it's killing me. Seems that the MacBooks are already much like their proposed sub-$500 netbooks.

sorry eric, but I'd hardly consider those quotes in line with a minor cosmetic cracking problem on the white MacBooks.

Don't mind me, I was just making an observation...but to elaborate:

A true quality product will not crack or otherwise break down from normal usage. So unless you were using your Macbook as a hockey puck, praising Apple for fixing a problem that shouldn't even exist considering the exorbitant cost of their products is like congratulating Chuck Liddell for beating up a quadriplegic.

Now if you have a real problem, say for example something like your iPod battery not holding a charge, they'll kindly direct you buy a new one - and you probably will, then you'll make a thread saying how awesome they were for telling you to buy a new iPod to replace the faulty battery in the original. 😀

You misquoted Tim Cook. He said "cramped keyboards", not "cracked".

In fairness, I have had Dell laptops crack in the past as part of normal use with no rough handling, and Dell did nothing to fix them under warranty.

😱

This changes everything!

I'm not saying it changes everything. Ugh.. the bottom line is electronics aren't perfect. They never have been. However, Macs are tougher than the majority of Windows based laptops that I have used. And when there is an issue, Apple takes care of it, unlike many of the other manufacturers.

If you want to stir up trouble, fine, but Apple is not immune to product defects.

That's some interesting logic...but I doubt your choice in computing platforms had anything to do with your level of income.

Just throwing out some facts.

Its one thing to mention facts, its quite another to come into a thread with a clear cut agenda designed to get under people's skin and trigger a negative reaction. I call a troll as I see one.

Seconded. His posts in the iPhone OS update thread are similar.

Eric is certainly trolling, but I too fail to understand why how much you earned last year is a representation of the quality of a certain computing platform.

I think its funny how easy it is to get mac user riled up.

btw: I am by no means a mac hater, this is being posted form a PowerBook.

I think it's funny how much of a double standard there always is... criticizing Apple makes you a public enemy #1 but criticizing Windows makes you one of the cool kids. It's kinda like high school.

On the topic of AppleCare. My MBP's power adapter is suffering that "exposed wire near the magsafe adapter" issue. Otherwise, the cable is in pristine shape, I even over-under wrap the damn thing every single time I put it away. Anyone brought a power cable in showing these signs and had them replaced without much fanfare?

It's just as easy to get the Windows fan boys heated up as well. 😉
