Ordered on 12/26 with free shipping so I could get the processor by the time I decided which MB to use. Figured that with free shipping it would be two weeks. Got it today.

And another note: Amazon ONLY ships (according to their website) thh SLACR (overclockable) Quad chip. When I ordered it, I figued I'd take my chances: Order by mail and see if I could save the CA sales tax and be assured to get the right chip.

It was and I did.

Also, the SL9UM is not "unoverclockable". I was able to get mine to a healthy 3.3GHz but my motherboard is s****y.

Agreed on both accounts.

Just yesterday I ordered a bunch of heavy-ass UPS stuff (APC) with ground shipping of course because of the weight and cost.

Fedex knocked on my door just 19 hours after I clicked the "submit order" button.

Now that is freakin crazy delivery time (including handling and order prep by the e-tailer)...6 days delivery should not find you in the pleasuredome SanDiegoPC.

You got me beat there. The quickest I've gotten is ordering on a monday morning and getting it the next morning, so around 22-24 hours. :p

Six days? I'm mildly disappointed if I don't get it within one or two days. Three days, I would consider average at best.

Just the major eTailers like NewEgg, Amazon, and Buy.com, mind you. I obviously don't have such lofty expectations of the smaller shops.

(No, I'm not being tongue-in-cheek - I actually do get things the next day sometimes, using the Free Shipping option on Buy.com and Amazon.)

The e-tailer is provantage in case anyone was interested. http://www.provantage.com/

I'm a Newegg freak, so this was a big step for me to buy from an "unknown". But they had a good merchant rating from a lot of customers (>1000) when I was looking for good prices on a few APC BE750BB so I went for it.

I was quite literally shocked when the doorbell rang and I opened it to see the Fedex guy today.

The future of FedEx + Newegg shipping is parts in orbit around the earth. Buy the part you want, then have it delivered in a pod to your front door using a gps guided encasement that spawns fins to direct the shipment. At the last moment, a parachute deploys and the newest xyz800GTX arrives on your doorstep 25 minutes after purchase.

I'd seen sites promising the G0 chip that I did get from Amazon, but they wanted more $$ to guarantee that processor. I'm jazzed that I was able to get it shipped to my door for the same price I could buy it locally but w/out the tax.

Maybe I got excited easily - but the Crucial Ram I ordered hasn't come yet and it was ordered the same day. They tell me that it was shipped, but the bottom line is that I have a chip with no RAM at the moment. The MB I can get locally and will do so along with an aftermarket HSF.

Any recommendations on the heat sink/Fan combo?

And if the parachute fails, your house is blown up by the kinetic energy of the package. Beta tester attrition...

Actually the slow service on amazon is 2 weeks max, I usually get it in 4-5 days from them. However, considering now the holiday is over, they are all sitting on their butt doing nothing. I think yeah, almost every major service is super fast nowadays.

Well, on BF (11/26) I ordered a Dyson off amazon late that night, dirt cheap and chose the free super saver shipping. I got my email receipt 15ish minutes later and it said it was slated to ship out 12/4 with delivery around th 10th or so. I got it on the 28th. Roughly 36 hours after ordering it. I have to appreciate nearly overnight delivery about a week before they were scheduled to ship and 2 weeks prior to when they said i'd get it. Turns out that worked damn well. We lost our power the week it was originally slated to be delivered and didn't get it back for 12 days - at work, only out 3 days at home - so i wouldn't have gotten it at all had they not shipped it so soon.

I've orderd from Newegg with overnight shipping, and had entire systems (meaning everything from the case to the CPU) delivered in less than 24 hours.

I don't know why, but I usually order next day air as well, but a few companies I don't because ground shipping is HELLA less money and the same time (MWAVE is about 2 hours away, as is NEWEGG HQ (but not their warehouses....).

EDIT: I know I could drive to MWAVE, but why drive when you can have it next day anyways and have someone deliver it to your doorstep? :p

Amazing? I think that is an huge over-statement, 6 business day's is long. My shortest shipping time for anything was a few fans + sleeving from Frozencpu, which arrived at my doorstep 18 hours after I ordered it. I bought I X-Mas gift off amazon for my father (Deep Fryer) and It arrived in 2 day's. So I would assume amazon shipping is more less results may vary.

I did. But the machines were "rush" builds for select customers. From clicking order, to having a fully functional running machine with everything installed was about 48 hours.

Can't beat that.

We order all sorts of things from Amazon all the time. We are Prime members so 2nd day shipping is free for many items. Just before christmas we placed an order at 5:30 or 6:00 am, part of the order was delivered (free of charge) later the same day. We were extremely shocked when the courier arrived at the house.

The best delivery I've ever had came by way of airborne express when I ordered a large heavy sony trinitron monitor from outpost back in 00. I placed my order just after midnight and less than 12hrs later airborne was at my door with it. That was back when outpost included free overnight with everything they sold. It was actually cheaper to buy from them than it was from most other vendors that charged for shipping on top of thier product price.
