I made an appointment last week to have the exhaust done on my 2000 f150, a flowmaster muffler and 3.5" stainless magnaflow tips. i was quoted at "about 400 bucks", $75 per tip... well here are the same tips, they are almost all the way down the page, the 18"x3.5" rolled edge stainless tip. here is the muffler that I was told they were going to use (the last one on the page) the price they said was about 50 bucks more than that site... should I confront the man at the shop about his prices? order the goods off the net and have someone install them? (since I don't know the first thing to doing exhaust).... bite my lip and pay the man... I do have a 10% off card.. but I would still be getting raped.

Small independent retail store will always be more expensive than an internet shop because of overhead, etc.
At least if you buy from this shop you can prod them into giving you an installation guarantee (i.e. if something goes wrong they fix it for free).

yea that is what i was thinking at first but, 66 for two tips compared to 150 for two sounds a lot better. i wonder if i just left the tailpipe there and bought those tips off the net and had them install them... there are a lot of other things i could do with 100 bucks than waste it...

edit: well i suppose anyone that is good with a welder could put them on. now that i think of it, it is supprising that other people haven't gone on the net and checked out how much they are really being taken for on their exhaust products.

Don't forget the additional raping he will give you for labor costs if he is going to install them. ;)

I cant stand those fart pipes. I like the sound better with no tailpipe and a Dukes of Hazzard horn!!

Here's an even better way to save money. Order the mufflers and tips from a place like jegs or summit racing. See those tools in your garage, use them; remove the old muffler and put the new one on (don't forget to pick up some new exhaust clamps before you start). Also, if you can get away with it, jusy clamp the tips on - my friend welded the tips on his firebird and regretted it when it looked like ass. So after you've taken a saturday afternoon to remove the old muffler and toss the new one on, bask in more money saved and a job well done. Buy a case of beer and wake up the neighbors at 3am ;)

docbartend: who said anything about a 'fartpipe'. i'm converting the single exhaust on a f150 to duals, no resonator tips will be used...

blackomen: i would... but like i said, going to duals, so new hangers need to be welded to the frame. I already know what it is going to look like with the tips, and I would rather they be welded on anyway so I know they are staying put. i thought about a aftermarket bolt on kit, something like the ones from gibson, but for half the price of those i can have a custom job, done by pro's.
