I feel like a dumbass.....

I was trying to determine the shipping on a receiver for my home theatre setup. The website listed a flat rate shipping of $30, but I live in Alaska. I wanted to see what the shipping rate REALLY was, and in such a case I usually have to take the checkout process all the way to the final confirmation before the company realizes it will be shipping to Alaska and reveals the "real" price. Anyway... this site didn't have that final confirmation page and before I knew it, I got "thanks for your purchase!"

...... yeah....

So um.... do you think if I call them in the morning they can cancel that? Or should I just let it be? It's a Pioneer Elite VSX-81TXV, new, total price was 625.00. I know I'm a bonehead but did I at least get a deal?

Oh yeah the company was butterflyphoto.com and here's a link to the receiver:

Nice receiver, good price, but no Pioneer Elite warranty, everything'll be covered by Butterfly.

I always loved their look and build quality, and their internals are much more intelligently designed as compared to Denon/Onkyo/Marantz...but the sound was never right for me.

a bit bright for me as well. I prefer a good denon receiver.

Call immediately and don't take no for an answer. My dad bought his TV from them, and they called him 2 or 3 times trying to get him to buy a $200 surge protector.

good luck 4.88 on rr. 🙁

Yeesh... they rated 4 stars out of 5 on pricegrabber though. Ah well.

In any case... if they DO ship it for that price... and it's not the right receiver for me... I can flip it on eBay and break even.

Buy local? Less trouble that way.

Yeah I know... I'm already buying my speakers from Shimeks down here, and will probably buy the DVD player local too. But the receivers seemed so much cheaper online that i wanted to check it out... and um... lets just say I went further than I planned on.

I'd call & cancel first thing in the morning ... I had the misfortune of dealing with these guys a few times back when I ran a consumer electronics website & they are scum.

😉
The receivers always look like a better deal on-line. The reality is that the better brands refuse to engage in e-commerce. Not saying you can't buy them on-line but you're ususally on your own after the sale.

Buy from the local specialty dealer. It doesn't cost any more. When you have a Best Buy down the Seward and a Sears across the street selling the same thing you know that the prices are honest. And buying from the local specialist you'll get better service.

"The sweet taste of a good deal is always overpowered by the bitter taste of poor service." Or in the case of an on-line dealer, no service.

just cancel the order...why waste your time and money on ebay. you won't get retail price for it most likely.

Is this the same company runs out of a storefront in the Bronx or somewhere and routinely calls customers and threatens them to purchase upgrades and warranties since "they have your info and could do things with it?"

If so, ouch.

Well, after running the situation past my in-town home theatre guy, he told me congrats and that I got a helluva deal (!). I expected he'd lecture me about not buying from authorized retailers and stuff but no, he was like "right on, that'll work perfect for ya!"

Also researched that model a bit more and turns out it is indeed exactly what I need. So, I'm definitely keeping it.

For the money, I would have gone for a used 56 Elite model. Only if HDMI is not something you want though.
