I accidentally check my statements the other day, and I saw something that p!ssed me off.

I got a $1.50 charge from a non Washington Mutual (herein WAMU) bank for using their ATM, that's understandable. Now next to it, there's a $2.00 charge from WAMU because I used the other ATM. WTF kinda shiet is this? All that talk about "stopping the $1.50 robber" and free this and that... fcuk WAMU.

I use WAMU and like them. I know I have to pay the fee if I use another bank's ATM, so generally I don't No big deal in my book.

It's always been like that. They used to charge $1.50 for using other bank's ATM, but since the "Free Checking" introduction it must have gone up.

Call them up, tell them there are plenty of other banks with free checking and if they are going to charg eyou for little crpa like that, you're going to close your account. They'll be happy to waive that fee for you since you didn't know you'd get the fee.

Join a credit union.

Zero fees for any of my own CU's ATM's, and zero fees for any of the 17,000+ CU Co-Op ATM's nationwide...

You can also just duck into any supermarket and debit purchase a pack of gum or something with cashback. Most banks don't charge for cashback with any debit purchase.

What are you talking about?

$2.00 bank fee + $1.50 atm fee = $3.50 for each atm visit.

That can add up fast...!

My USAA checking account is interest-bearing (though not much nowadays), and has no-fee checking, and USAA does not charge for using other banks' ATMs and refunds up to ten charges per month levied by the owner of the ATM. Go USAA!

which is why you take out 300-500 dollars. that way any fees are a very small percentage overall.

Next time instead of going to an ATM go to Target or a supermarket or something buy a pack of gum or something small and get cash back.

eh?

Thats what I do since my primary checking account is Wells Fargo and there are no branches up here in the DC area. Buy a pack of gum and do a debit card transaction with cash back. But be careful, some branches still charge fees for debit card transactions even. Chevy Chase does.
