WOW account cancelation

Does anyone know what blizzard does with canceled characters. I'm leaving WOW for a bit but wondering if its possible for me to reactivate my account and still have character the way I left it. Does Blizz save it on the server for a specified amount of time?

They never delete them, as doing so would make it much less likely that you ever came back.

They have reserved the right to do so at some point in the future, but said they have no plans to ever do so currently.

They have stated they will keep the characters for 6 months minimum. that is what they guarantee. Though they also said they will TRY to make sure they never will have to delete characters.

I can't imagine that each character really uses up much hard drive storage space. The biggest issue for Bliz would be maintenance and changes in the future, nerfs, etc. And applying those changes to all of the stale characters.

I'm hoping they don't, because I'd be pretty mad if I went back and found my 700+ gold deleted.... I'm still considering playing again this winter if more content gets added by then...

My account was expired for about a month and a half and my characters haven't been deleted.
