WOW: Abit BH7, Intel P4 2.40B @ 3.33 Ghz - 185 FSB - 1.53v !!!!

Hi guys

TEST System:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.40B - SL6RZ - Malay - OEM
Board: Abit BH7 v1.1
Memory: Twinmos (Winbond chips) @ DDR 450 (2/5/3/3)
PSU: Antec 430w True Power
Video card: ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Heatsink: Thermalright SLK900U w/ 92mm Zalman fan

Stress testing:
1) 3330 Mhz

FSB: 185Mhz
CPU VCore: +5% (1.53v actual)
Memory: 2/3/3/6 (SPD)
everything else default
Prime95: Ran for 10 hours and then stopped by me.........
Conclusion: System rock stable
Comments: Temps worry me....they tend to get ~70C using the Abit Hardware monitor and MBM (i know Abit reads higher temps but still worried)

2) 3420 Mhz
FSB: 190Mhz
CPU VCore: +10% (1.62v actual)
Memory: 2/3/3/6 (SPD)
everything else default
Ran Prime95 for 1 hour but then i restarted the system because temps were getting in high 60s. but it was still going.....someone told me that board reads the temps ~15C over ? is that true....? anyway testing overnight at 185FSB just to be on safe side for now...
Comments: I will test this this coming weekend so that i can keep a close eye on the temps at all times

3) 3300 Mhz
FSB: 183Mhz
CPU VCore: +5% (1.53v actual)
Memory: 2/3/3/6 (SPD)
everything else default
Rock stable.....P95 ran overnight and memtest passed ~20 loops before i stopped it manually. Temps much much better when compared to 185FSB too...
Comments: Highest my temps went were 60C (using Abit Hardware monitor)

Daily Use
FSB: 180 Mhz
CPU VCore: +5% (1.53v actual) - will test 1.47v actual over this weekend @ 180FSB again
Memory: DDR 450 @ 2/3/3/5 timings @ 2.83v actual
everything else default

Very nice OC going on.... :) Your SL6RZ is sweet! I use the Winbond Hardware Doctor, but I will reboot and check the -12v and -5v in the BIOS for you... Be back in a minute....

EDIT: OOPs.. That's why those readings are not in the WHD.. Not in the BIOS... I did not notice that before... I guess I'll DL MBM....

EDIT: Well, my -12v is reading -6.68v and the -5v is reading -3.94v in MBM. I have the Antec TruePower 550. Personally, I would not worry about it.. Perhaps ABIT left those readings out of the BIOS for a reason???
Abit boards typically read temps higher than usual.
This has been my experience with many different ABIT mobos as well...

I really thinkin this abit bh7 from reviwes I am seeing isn't really do that much better then earleir abit and albatron mobos....I think it is plain those SL6Rz chips you have mainly....

Techonut, what revision of the board you got ? My board is rev 1.1..........wondering Abit already has a v1.1 out for BH7 .....

alright guys...then get your mobos rolling.....

i will test for 195FSB tonight........i am sure that this board can do 200 FSB, the question is whether my chip can do it or not ......Man now i need some PC3700 memory to use 4:5 ratio @ 185FSB...i am using 1:1 ratio right now

ok guys...i am not going at anything over 185 FSB for now...many reasons but here are the main ones:

1) COOLING: I know Abit reads high temps and i am using one of the best HS available but still, i am little weary of temps and want to play on safe side.
2) VOLTAGE: I have only give the chip +5% volts (actual voltage is 1.53-1.54v) and thats just a tiny bit higher than default. I know i can go to +10% and will be save by Cooling worries me, and so i am playing it safe.
3) MEMORY: I dont think that my memory can handle it using 1:1 ratio....i dont know why...my memory runs DDR400 @ SPD @ default using 4:5 ratio but when i use 1:1 ratio, i need to give the memory little extra voltage...wonder why...

As of right now, i have tested 185FSB to be rock stable. For Daily use, i am going to consider 180 FSB(3.25Ghz) or 183 FSB(3.30 GHz).
Benches will come next weekend as i got finals to study for this week now and so i will be busy.

I will do some more stress testing @ 195 FSB w/ +10% but i will be monitoring my system very closely while doing those tests and that can only happen over the next weekend....I think that this chip can hit 200 FSB if i have a good memory and good cooling there.....anyway...hold till next week for more news from me...

I will keep dropping in and give my inputs during the weekdays but it wont be that extensive b/c of finals.

Keep an eye on the "Other" temperature reading in the Winbond util. I think it's the northbridge and at 3.4Ghz it got extremely hot later on in the test - close to 80C, while the CPU temp stayed under 70C and more towards 60C. I'm going see if I can cool it better, and retest.

Where are you getting the northbridge reading from?.

It's not the NB, its the 4-Phase Power circuitry.

On the BH7 there are 3 temp read outs:

1) System (MB)
2) CPU
3) 4-Phase PWM (Power)

ok one more interesting info....
the temps @ 183 FSB seem a lot lot lower when compared w/ 185 FSB. i am talking about an average differnce of ~7-9C....

also, regarding the "Other" temp reading, i am getting ~49-51C. I do have a 40mm fan installed on the NB, so that is surely helping me, but it hasnt crossed the 60C mark.

PS: I still think that 185FSB is getting too hot for me and my system, so i am gonna decide b/t 180 and 183 FSB...but you watercooling guys, go ahead and take it all the way to 200 FSB and good luck....
