i want to play WoW at it's highest settings so i crank up everything in game, 4xAA, and 16 AF.

what is TR SSAA? how do I enable that?

any other settings i should be aware of?

thanks!

PS. running WoW at 1920x1200 with everything cranked up is spectacular.

I believe TR SSAA stands for Transparency SuperSampling Anti-Aliasing, which is basically the highest quality form of anti-aliasing regarding within objects. I guess the best example of this in action would be a chain link fence. The fence is transparent, and normal AA would affect the outside of the fence, but not the inner part - TR AA will handle that.

So as far as AA goes, I guess the bst on your single card is 8xS AA, Gamma correct AA, and Transparency SuperSampling (MultiSampling is worse quality better performance) AA all enabled.

I don't remember what settings are in WoW itself though, all these can be forced from the control panel.

ah, so multisampling is bad? there is a setting in WoW for color depth and i chose 24 bit 4x multisampling but that's bad?

any idea how I enable TR SSAA?

Well it's not "bad", it's just a different method. Supersampling looks better, but takes more work to accomplish. Multisampling has higher performance but doesn't look as good (still better than no AA though).

You enable TR AA in the Forceware control panel. Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Performance & Quality Settings. Make sure the View is set to Advanced settings instead of Basic settings. Scroll down and find "Transparency Antialiasing" and change it to either Multisampling or Supersampling depending on your needs.

got it, just found it thanks. =) in the actual game there is a setting for multi sampling and it definitely looks better when i crank it to 24 bit depth 24 bit color 4x multisample. just a trick of the eyes or is this multisampling completely different?

Yeah, I find WoW looks absolutely awful if I don't crank multisample as high as my card can handle it.

Unfortunately I recently got a new LCD and now must play in 1280x1024 (which is my LCDs native resolution) so I had to bring multisample down to 24 bit depth but 16 bit color. Still looks a bit better than no multisample or 16 bit depth.

good to know...

this beast of a 7900gtx can handle the 24 bit multi, 8xsAA, 16AF @ 1920x1200 and hit 35fps in towns and 45-55 in dungeons/grinding. fairly impressive.
