There's a new gym opening up near my house called Renaissance Club Sport (joint hotel/club between Mariott and Club Sport). I stopped in today for pricing plans and it's 400$ membership fee plus 99$ per month for a single person, and that doesnt' even include use of Tennis Courts (extra 50 per month). A family package (two adults two children) rings up as 450 one time fee and 190$ a month. And these are just the rates in july, each one-time membership fee goes up 100$ per month until the opening in October. Is this standard pricing for a new gym? My friend just payed 150$ for 3 months at a fairly decent gym across town with no kind of membership fee in sight.

Wow that's expensive. I pay $31 a month at my gym with no other fees at all. I doubt it's as nice as the one you checked out, but it's a good gym.

What kind of a CLUB is this? My dad was a member of a club (golf) that cost him $45G to join and over $200/mo for his membership. He was a member there for many years and I played golf there many times, it was great. It is a private club and they can charge what they want thogh, so watch out.

I am pretty sure you are not paying the buy in fee, but unless you use it, you lose it.

I live in Walnut Creek California (little north of San Fran). I guess if u look at it u can tell why it's so expensive, as it's constructed on a HUGE lot (85,000 square foot according to their flier). www.clubsports.com -> Renaissance Club Sport They have a 6-lane swimming pool along with three other small pools, meeting rooms, and a hotel. I guess they are trying to compete somewhat with Embassy Suites which is across the street from them (and it's very nice, not like the Embassy Suites in L.A next to KNotts Berry Farm)

Bally's Gym is 99$ one time fee and 35$ a month, and there's two of em near me. Or since i'm not exactly a stud i could use the 18$ one time fee and 18$ for three days a week option (alternative plan).

Don't join now. You shouldn't join a gym until it's operating and you can see for yourself what type of equipment they have, how clean it is, and how crowded it is at the times you want to go. What's the point of joining if you have to wait in long lines to use the facilities?

I pay something like $13,000 for a fast internet connection and gym use for 9 months. I guess they throw in some schooling in there too, but thats just a side benefit/pain. During the summer here at home I pay $20 a month at Gold's. Love the student discount. :) I just wish it was as nice as school.
