Wow, 3X native HDMI ports on a video card, first time that I've seen that. (Gigabyte GTX 1650)

  • 3 x HDMI, 1 x DisplayPort
  • PCI Express 3.0 x16

I know that some VR helmets like to have two HDMI outputs, one for each eye, but three? Nice.

Is this a sign that HDMI is getting more popular than DP, even though DP doesn't have any royalty payments, and HDMI does?

I wonder if this card has the chops for 3x 4K UHD HDR over HDMI2.0b, and maybe a fourth 4K UHD display via the DisplayPort?

HDMI is more popular because its dominant in consumer electronics where DP has almost no traction.

What VR headsets want multiple HDMI?

Also, ugh, I'm not buying a new video card that does not have HDMI 2.1. Let alone one that has 3 HDMI ports and not a single 2.1. And double ugh that the next DP spec isn't out, so potentially will be dealing with the same type of nonsense in waiting for it. And then ugh x3 with the USB spec (which matters because it'll likely be somewhat popular for video cables with the USB-C DP alternate mode). And just ugh x1000000000... over these spec decisions (HDMI 2.0 should've been 1.x and 2.1 should've been 2.0 since its such a big improvement; I'm glad that DP seems to be looking at similar where they realize that their next spec is going to be a very substantial shift and so 2.0 makes sense).

Far as I am aware, I am not going to get 144hz G-Sync over HDMI.
I believe Display Port's value is in doing what HDMI cannot.
And what is that ? I have not seen a monitor that even does display port ! Or any devices.

Display Port is all I use because HDMI 2.1 isn't available. Both my monitors for my desktop require DP as well.

I'm hoping HDMI 2.1 helps speed up 144hz+ adoption rate. Most people have no idea what Display Port looks like and why it exists. But they do know HDMI.

My current 2k 120hz G-Sync Acer will only do 120hz over display port, and it's 3 years old.
Thanks, I will look for a display with a higher refresh than 75 hz, and look for that !

Edit: And a Dune lover too ! I still play Dune 2000 a lot and own the movie..

Well to be fair, can anyone purchase a GPU with HDMI 2.1?

no HDMI 2.1? bad idea. Maybe someone should remind them its 2019 now.

I'm sure AMD will force them to make HDMI 2.1 standard after NAVI is released. Should be standard with all 3000 series NVIDIA gpus and I'm honestly surprised it's not with all 2000 series but NVIDIA is slow on the uptake...
