Actually, I bet it's real. 6 years ago, I saw similar technology at COSI in Columbus, OH. You heard a phone ringing, and the sound was coming from what appeared to be a cordless handset sitting in a small alcove on the wall (where one would expect a phone). When you went for it, it wasn't there. Really really cool. I imagine that in 6 years, they'd have improved on the technology a bit.
