SIS has a core market of cheap integrated mobo manufacturers.

As long as they cater to these bottom-of-the-barrel cheapskate companies, their margins will be low and they will be unable to procure the funds necessary for serious R & D.

The more competition the better. I rather like the idea of not getting the big shaft from nvidia when it comes to video cards. Do they make nice cards, yes. Am I ever going to pay $300 for one, not unless I win the lotto.

They are busy trying to cut B2B deals in the subnotebook and blade server markets.

It appears that Transmeta's power savings and performance/clockrate advantages weren't as stellar as previously thought, especially when one takes into account the higher prices of Transmeta CPU's and the lower-than-ever-before prices of AMD and Intel CPU's, so a lot of previously interested customers are shying away from Transmeta.

Wouldn't it be funnier if Bitboys Oy actually produced an engineering sample of their technology?

transmeta's designs are a failure basically for the laptop market. Their current flagship the 5800 i think runs at 800mhz max. thats is bad on the consumer oriented mhz front because pepole belive in mhz. the other thing that is bad is that its only about as fast as a p3-400 -450 machine.

So i guess intel figured out they could just take their much faster p3-800 chips because they have much better process technology and just clock them at 400mhz and it would use barely more power than transmetas, while still haveing the intel name, etc. Not to mention that the cpu only accounts for like 10% of notebook power use, so its not that big a deal.

I coudl see SIS becoming a big player. All it takes in this industry especially one like graphics where if you miss a design cycle your competitors are gonna be right there behind you. Look at 3dfx, they didnt execute and now they are dead. nvidia missed a design cycle and say the kyro 4 or something comes out on time from say VIA if VIA buys STMicro's graphics business and who knows.

No more funny than predicting 18 months ago that SIS would have one of the top performing chipsets on the market for both Athlon and P4...

First of all, "Oy" is not needed. It would be the same if you called NVIDIA, NVIDIA Inc. It's just Bitboys. "Oy" is short for "Osakeyhtiö", which basically means same as "Inc." or "Ltd."

And who says they haven't made samples ;)? If only you knew...

If we exclude Bitboys from conversation... I think Matrox will be the performance leader (by wide margin!) in the near future. I'm 100% serious.

oh man, I would not mind them becoming one of the top preformers. I am a ATI fan, but anything that drives ATI and nVidia to compete more and lower prices is a good thing in my book
