saturday + sunday day shift plus 2-3 other days during the week of your choice (you'd also have the choice of whether to work 4x10 hour or 5x8 hour days)

up side would be a moderate raise (~5K) but working that schedule indefinitely.

I was just thinking that when I was watching Sunday night news. While I'm home, relaxing and gearing up for Monday, they're still at work. They're at work, fully dressed, working at 11pm on Sunday.

That sucks big donkey balls. And their day off is some odd weekday where no one else is out.

Not necessarily a bad thing.

On the weekend, stores, restaurants, movies, etc are all packed.

I work every other weekend, and a few days during the week. I love it. Having days off during the week makes it so much easier to get things done.

Yep, I like to hike on the weekends and there would be fewer people out in the sticks on weekdays so it would be better. Also, errands are easier to run on weekdays when most businesses are open.

You can have a social life working on weekends. Millions of kids who work retail jobs do why can't you?

I've been doing this for nearly 8 years (at least to some degree). While it is not guaranteed I work Saturday / Sunday, I'd say 90% + of my work schedule is friday / saturday.

Next month I do get friday / saturdays off (work sunady) but this is rare.

Quite frankly I don't care that much as long as I'm working 40 hrs and getting paid good money. However, I think if I could take a 5k paycut to finally have a normal schedule, I might TRY it, but most likely would eventually take the 5k back because you get used to either way I assume.

I should mention I had about 5 months where i worked mon-fri and rotated saturday shifts about once a month. I got used to both. Time off is time off.

most cops/firemen/safety sensitive workers have mid week days off.

assuming it's something like 8-6, it would be fine more often than not... but on the other hand, I'd imagine finding people to cover for you would be an impossibility, making you take vacation days any time you wanted to go away for a weekend.

Sure, why not?

I worked most weekends when I was working construction...Saturday was just another working day for me...except that I got time and a half for the first 8, double time after that. Sundays were at least once a month during most of the year. That was double all day...

In the OP's scenario, Saturday/Sunday would be regular time, but even when I worked odd-ball shifts that had weekends as my regular days, I didn't mind too much. When I'd hit the lake or streams for fishing mid-week, there'd hardly ever be anyone there...and the fishing was wonderful...for me, peace and quiet are about as important as actually catching fish...but the fish eat better.:p

No. Everyone else has the weekends free, so any social life would die.

You don't know how to go out at night time?

The bisness I'm in (tech for a telecomm) is 24/7/365 and so someone will have to work it. I just happen to work graveyard shift, 10pm to 6am, when all the fun happens, but there is always someone here.

you could just work a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule. I do that b/c I'm working in the oil field. Unfortunately my schedule just changed to 2 weeks on / 1 week off. Granted i make more money, and I save a lot of money, but that type of schedule can make it rough having a social life.

So, seeing how I already work a weekend schedule, I would not have a problem doing it as stated by the OP. I would probably do the 4x10... get it all out of the way. That certainly beats the 12 hour or more days i put in for work already.
