Would you watch robotic racing?

No safety gear, no driver reaction times or g-force limits...

no rules (except maybe weight)...

F1 at 350 mph anyone?

there is already one type of racing that exceeds that by around 100mph and I'm not talking drag.

It would be very interesting at the beginning, but as tech matures, it becomes boring.

yeah, everyone would have a perfected AI and car at some point.
I'd be like the cars in F1 all looking the same now, but without the pilots to mix things up.

I've never seen nascar, is it really just running in circles?

I would love such a series, because I'm working on a Ph.D. in autonomous driving, and I would be even happier with it if I were working with a Formula 1 car than a Tahoe.

Also, I'd love to see a no-rules series. Active downforce, engines making several thousand horsepower (possibly turbine!). No minimum weight. It'd be totally awesome. There's no technical reason that a car can't lap most racetracks never going slower than 150.

edit: I should say, as someone intimately familiar with the tech, that we are nowhere near close to being able to safely drive autonomously any faster than highway speeds in traffic.

I think it would be great for R&D - take the human equation out, and all you have left is the quality of the vehicle.

Well, qualifying would be good, but once you get more than one car on the track at a time, it's just going to be a giant crash.

and AI quality. i think it would be interesting, but im into that kind of stuff. i write automation programs for water systems. it would be interesting to see what kinds of advantages you could give a car with less-than-moral decision making routines. also, the navigation systems would be both their total eyes and worst nightmare based on connection speed and interpretation of data. lots of room for errors if there wasnt a ton of regulation on how they needed to be programmed.
