Background info-
Recently bought soundblaster audigy SE from Bestbuy, I believe I can just return this for a full refund or something?

Have Logitech X-230

System used for gaming, listening to music, and general usage. And, whenever I am at this computer the speakers will be in use. When gaming, I will of course be getting sound from the game. But when doing anything else I will be listening to songs via mp3 or online radio via 95.3 WAOR.

I have very little cash, but I guess I could scrounge same $$$ together, or even get a cash advance for xmas from my parents.

Now the good stuff 🙂

Currently at Newegg there is this X-Fi Xtreme Audio for $65

and this X-Fi Xtreme Music for $86

What is the difference between these two cards, and should I splurge and return the Audigy SE for one of these.

I don't know anything about the speakers, but if the Audigy SE is the little Audigy like I had once, upgrading should make a good deal of difference in the sound quality. At least it did when I upgraded to the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum or Gamer.

Also, another point is that if I do bite the bullet and get the X-Fi, I will re-use it on any new rig I put together. Unlike the Audigy, which will probably get added to my graveyard of parts, or sold. To get replaced by something better (Likely an X-Fi).

Hmm, I cannot find the receipt for my Audigy SE, whats BestBuy do on returns if you don't have a receipt. The receipt is just to prove you bought it there right? It does still have that Geek Squad sticker on it...

From bestbuy.com:

Your original receipt is required for all returns, exchanges, price matches and warranty repair services. All returns and exchanges must be in original condition and include all accessories. All returns, exchanges and price adjustments must be made in the country of original purchase. Best Buy reserves the right to request identification and to deny any return.

oh hells no, those things don't really justify any soundcard upgrade over onboard sound pretty much in the first place😛

spend 300+ on speakers and then listen to your original sound card again, its not holding you back😛 hell spend 500+ and you'll still be fine with that one😛 these days base line quality for sound cards is such that unless you spend big chunks of money on speakers ur just kidding urself. think of it like pairing a dual core cpu upgrade when you are running with only 256mb ram installed. its futile, you need both good speakers and a decent soundcard otherwise its a big waste of money. you aren't that poor from your rig list. spend the money where it matters, the speakers, spend atleast 3x what your sound card costs.

guess creatives marketing department is still working great

I prefer the videocard / monitor analogy 😛

Spend $800 on videocards and then hook up a 15" CRT with 800x600 res 🙂
