Would you upgrade to a Socket 370 Celeron 533 from a Celeron 366 for $39?

Slot 1 board with a slocket, or socket?

If you can use a FC Celeron you can pick up a 667 FC for not much more than that ($42 on PriceWatch). Or grab a 533/566 & overclock it.

But if you're stuck with PPGA, go for it.

Most 366's did 550 no problem,if your board supports 100mhz fsb i would try that before buying a slower 66mhz fsb 533.

Let see---did he say anything about changing to a Celeron II 667. No. He asked about a Celeron 533, probably in an older motherboard that will not support a Coppermine or anything less then 2.0 volts. If you are going to respond to a post, please answer the question the person asked. If you do not have personal knowledge of the question, do not respond. Writing twenty sentences about a subject then ending with "I think" or "I'm not sure" doesn't do us any good. RRRRRRR.

Heh.. This is an older board that only supports up to a 533 mhz chip (PPGA, Socket 370..). This board doesn't allow OC either, so I'm pretty much stuck with whatever processor speed I get.

I'm wondering if the increased speed of a 533 mhz Celeron would be worth the $39 upgrade over the 366 Celeron.

Thanks again,

Sal

Got another question.. I checked Sandra and it says under mainboard upgradeability, something about Slot1 and slot1/a. What does this mean? The mobo is a socket 370 PPGA. Am I pretty much stuck with the socket 370 processor?

Also.. Sandra says that my mainboard temp is too high. Is this an accurate temp. reading if I don't have a temp. probe? Both the stock fans are working fine. The CPU is not OC either.

Thanks again,

Sal

To avoid the words "I think" and make RickH any more upset, I will say I feel that that is a worthy upgrade for less than $40.

My problem is that in the last year the Forms have degraded into the ramblings of a bunch ok 16-year-old boys. Endless postings of "That sux". Diamond members giving pages of advice, then in the next breath asking some simply question like "how do I tell the difference between an ISA and a PCI slot?". I wouldn't want to buy hundreds of dollars of computer parts on their advice. There is a great deal of useful information here, don't muddy the water with useless junk postings and recommendations unless you are sure of the facts. R.

RickH:
First of all: The rankings mean nothing, except some Elite Members. 2nd: They only try to give him better suggestions, and what's wrong with that? And in this thread there wasn't anything like "That sux". And what has age to do with knowledge? I know some "IT Experts" at my company who don't have a clue and they are twice as old as I am. I don't say I know everything, but age ain't nothin' but a number.

Peace out ;)
