Would you upgrade from a 1.4 Athlon to a 2000+?

Just curious what you all would do....

I should easily be able to do the 143x12.5 for about 1.8 ghz....

Will I see a lot of improvement over my 1.4 to justify spending the $55?

I told myself no upgrades, but this is proving hard to pass up.......

Uhmmm . . . I wonder why that is. Could it be mostly porn material? :Q

On a serious note, I don't think that there's much of a difference. I bought an XP 1700+ but didn't note much of a difference. What do I know, though!

Don't be such a spender when you're still a student and $55 means a lot. :)

What type of memory do you currently own...?

A 2000+ would be a nice upgrade from a 1.4. However, if you have decent memory a 1700+ might be in order... Should be able to squeeze 2ghz out no prob..

Another vote for the 1700+, its only 40 bucks and you'll get at least 1.8-1.9 ghz out of it minimum. People have gotten it to about 2.1 average and 2.5 max. Try to land yourself a t bred 'b' version of it, which shouldn't be very hard.

no experience with the 1700+ so i cant speak however i changed for a 1.4t-bird to a 2400+ then a 2500+ i have dealt with a 1800+ from newegg it clocked pretty nice at 2.05ghz with a slight bump in voltage stupid ram was holding back on that OC and since it was my grandfathers i left it be LOL

The question is, is Photoshop really that slow right now? If it's not, and that's all that matters to you then don't upgrade. If it isn't fast enough for you, then go ahead and upgrade. Even upgrading to an Athlon XP1600, which runs at 1.4 Ghz as well you'd see an improvement. But with the price of processors being so low, you really can't go wrong. If you can get an XP2000 for $55, and you have $55 that you won't miss, go for it. It will most likely run cooler and use less power too.

I also have the awful KG-7 (terrible overclocker) and its not really the board you want to put an 2000 XP in, users have reported severe instabilities with the XP xhips. I am in exactly the same situation as you, I have a magma-feulled T-Bred 1400 A Mhz and desperately want to upgrade it, but with the KG-7 its gonna be a hit or miss affair. Good luck anyways :D

What I did is got a JIUHB 1700+ or 1800+(make sure it's a 1.5volter code 'DLT3C', you should be able to get these with help from PPL in here of Hot deals. I'm in the UK so I can't help you there.

But to get the 15 I had to cut the L3 Bridges to hardwire the multiplier. To select the multiplier you want, go HERE. This shows you which bridges to cut to get the multiplier you want. I used a multimeter's continuity mode to tell when I had broken the link on the bridge, as you can cut too far (only if ur a hamfisted foo like my m8 John).

Once ur new chip is prepared, update to the latest KG7 BIOS and set it to 'Above 13', pop in the new modded CPU and boot, should start up fine and then you can mod the FSB to your liking. My 1700+ booted at 2Ghz right away(133 x 15), so 2.1 was relatively simple.

Your PC2100 will be fine as the AMD760 chipset is shady at anything over 150Mhz anyhow.

Good luck!
