That first link you showed with Doom 3 is a joke, a 3200+ A64 only scores 8-10 frames faster...

Look carefully. We are looking at minimum frames here, NOT average. In which case 8-10 frames is a huge difference. It shows that XP isn't even able to have frames above 24, which is the bare minimum for smooth gameplay. Again, if you look at this whole review, they actually do the pre-built in-game benchmarks which fails to show these important implications. The most surprising thing here is that the real world test actually shows A64 processors do not dominate as much when a custom bench is ran.

Hi there,

I am in a similar situation. I have a XP 2500+ setup overclocked to 3000+ speeds. I would try pushing higher but airflow sucks in the case I have now. I currently have a 9700Pro. Would getting a 6600GT improve my gaming at all. I have a older 939 setup in the wings (I got the MB but I am still waiting for the right cpu).

I am playing Farcry, KOTOR2 and HL2 at moment but also want to play SC: Chaos Theory.

Please LMK and sorry for the thread bite.

6600GT review
Far Cry

Again depending on your budget and resolution/setting you play at. Probably 6800GT or 6800nu (unlocked to 16 pipes and 6 vertex engines) would be pretty good. Perhaps X800 or X800XL are not so bad given that far Cry and HL2 are faster on ATI cards.

You also mention that you already have 939 socket motherboard? How about getting a 3000+ venice cpu and overclocking it? Then you have definately wont have to worry about cpu bottlenecking.

Thanks for the response. The K8N neo2 is right now sitting in the closet awaiting more funds for the cpu. Someone had a 6600 GT that was too good to pass up so I got it. (should have gotten the cpu instead 🙁 )

If you feel that the 9700 Pro would tie me over, I may sell it afterwards.

I was however, hoping to put that in the A64 system since I can't justify a $300+ video card like the 6800GT.
