i trust the 9700 pro becaue its a refrub from dumping grounds. i remeber picking up a refurb ti4200 from them for $30 or so

i would trust the 9800 unless i was absolutely sure it was a 256 bit card. its kind of shady how they dont list the specs of the card

It doesnt say it is a 9800 pro, and IIRC the atlantis cards were known to be 128 bit.

That 9800 Pro is 128-bit for sure. The memory chips are TSOP first of all, not BGA (which was used on all 9800 Pro 256-bit cards), second of all the memory is in a line on the top only instead of split in a 2/2 above/to the right of the core configuration for 256-bit (and hence it is a 128-bit card).

So, the card appears to be legit, it's just 128-bit and probably slower RAM as well, to add insult to injury.

Avoid the card - 128-bit 9800 cards are crippled due to having half of the memory bandwidth.

What happened?

My brother wanted a computer for Christmas a year ago. He didnt want to build it, found buyxg on the web. Ordered one, paid for it (they charged his visa). He paid extra to have it built faster than normal, and paid extra to have it shipped overnight. A week goes by, no computer, no emails with updates, etc. He sends them a few emails, over a period of about 5 days. No response. He calls them, leaves a message. He calls again. And again. Finally gets someone on the phone. About two weeks had passed, and he finds out that not only is his computer not on its way, its not even built yet.

The motherboard he selected, was not in stock (but was shown in stock on their website). Nobody bothered to contact him and let him know it was out of stock, and would delay the build of his computer (this really pissed him off, because he paid more than $100 extra to have it built quick and shipped quick). His problem was with their customer service, and not their product (the computer has worked well). With our family, customer service is just as important as the product quality.

If the orignial poster buys a card from buyxg, and something is wrong, good luck getting them to do anything about it. And thats if you can even get a hold of them.

Thats why I always buy from places with established, excellent customer service. Like newegg.

There is an ebay store (think it is called 99 store or something like that) that is selling new boxed ATI radeon 9700 Pro's for $138 + 15 shipping. They had like 40 in stock yesterday. I am no expert, but from what i have read the 9700 pro (128M/256bit) is close in performance to the 9800 pro (128M/256bit) and there is almost a 100% chance you can overclock with stock cooling to 9800 Pro speeds.

So for around $153 total you can get a new 9700 Pro (128M/256bit) which i think is the best Bang for the money performance wise untill the 6600GT AGP's come down to sub $200 or you can find one of the $200 comp USA 6800's.
