My friends motherboard has a massive glop of hot glue on it larger than a quarter located behind the CPU.

I have never seen that before and I wouldn't like it if it were on my motherboard.

Would you guys trust it?

Actually I've seen this before. The first motherboard combo I ever bought came like this... the clips for the HSF were hot-glued to the PCB.

I just removed the glue. No harm. Pulled right off.

Do you mean under the CPU, or behind it on the opposite side of the MortherBoard?

If its under the CPU, then no, I wouldn't trust it.

If it's on the opposite side of the board, it was probably just put there to keep the board from flexing when the HSF was atached to the CPU. In that case, no biggie, it's fine.
