Well heres my predicament...

I have an IBM Thinkpad R40
2.2 Ghz Pentium 4-M (note not Pentium m)
Ati Mobility Radeon w/ 16Mb
14.1 lcd w/ max res 1024 x 768
2 Gb DDR
120 Gb Hard Drive (brand new 5 year warrantee)
Brand new battery

I spent only $150 for the laptop, $30 for the battery & 70 for the ram so $250 total and it works perfectly no problems what so ever... also has a 1 year squaretrade warranty.

I can trade it for a Gateway Mx6447
2.0 Ghz Turion 64 MK-36
Ati Radeon Xpress 1150 w/ 128 shared
15.4 lcd w. max res 1280 x 800
2 Gb DDR2
120 Gb Hard Drive (unknown warranty)
Unknown battery life.

Even though my laptop works fine and is still under warranty... the only reason I'm considering is becuase I think that I may be able to upgrade the processor to a cheap Turion x2 and have a really cheap upgrade for me. But the only reason why I haven't pulled the trigger is because the no warranty issue with the laptop, hard drive and battery life.

Would you pull the trigger?

I was also considering to just sell the laptop, sell the ddr and keep the new hard drive... buy a new cheap lappy when there is a killer sale ($450 range). Use the hard drive as an external.

There's going to be a Compaq X2 laptop sale at Staples soon. It's at $399.99.

and the dell outlet will always get you something in that price range with a 1 year warranty. im seriously considering going that route myself (though im going to spend closer to 600 when im ready to buy)
