No offense but, as a Bulls fan, I think you're proposed trade is quite laughable... Between the drama that Cousins has had this season his trade value is as low as it's gonna get. Chicago is a team that is extremely dependent on its chemistry and selfless play, something that is like a foreign language to Cousins at this point in his career. While I think he would be able to mature under a group like Rose keeping him inline it's not something that would happen over night and we are firmly in win-now mode. If Cousins can ever manage to put it together and get onto the right path it's not going to be within this season or next, it's gonna take this kid time.
I'm going to -- ahem -- have to, uh,
respectfully disagree here.
Hard.
JA Adande at ESPN, when the Cousins biz first broke, threw out the Magic getting him back in exchange for Dwight Howard. Now, I personally -- and perhaps you
personally -- might think that's ludicrous (and for the record, I do) but it just goes to show what people in "the know" think about DMC.
In point of fact, that trade with the Bulls is by FAR the worst trade for the Kings, and one the Kings would likely never make in a million years. Taj Gibson is a nice player, but his biggest values are two things that really won't help the rest of the league. 1). He's under his rookie contract for 2 more years. Which, unless he gets traded, like, tomorrow, isn't going to help his next team, and 2). His defensive intensity, which comes in the context of a scheme with Thibs and the rest of the Bulls. Which isn't to say he wouldn't be effective someplace else (he certainly would) but IS to say he's more valuable to the Bulls than anyone else. Offensively, he's a significantly limited player. We don't even need to bring up CJ Watson here.
Anyway, the idea that the Bulls would throw off the chemistry of their
second unit to hit a home run in the talent coming back in a trade is by no means "laughable". A "fair" trade would be both Gibson AND Asik, but as I mentioned in the column, THAT would likely be too much for the Chicago brass to swallow. But the reality is, they would jump at getting DMC in a second if all it cost them was Taj (who, as I mentioned, they probably won't be able to resign anyway).
