let's say, hypothetically, you had knowledge that a coworker was on the verge of getting fired and that the only reason he was still employed was because they hadn't found a replacement yet... would you confide in your soon to be ex-coworker and tell him to start getting his resume ready or would you keep your trap shut?

If s/he was a very good friend, probably. If not, most likely not.

tread very carefully - people tend to get very frustrated and emotional when they find out they will be fired.

When you hint at it - he may burst into someone's office screaming and shouting.

I would only do it, if I could do it after work to a very good friend of mine. Even then, maybe not.

How much do you trust this co-worker? If it's not family or close to it, it's unfortunately not worth the risk.

Average co-worker there would be no way in hell, it would have to be a co-workers I'd call a friend and knew I didn't have anything to do with them being fired.

Studies have statistically shown that there?s less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

So you're going to fire Samir and Michael and give me more money?

I used to be a renegade, I used to fool around
But I couldn't take the punishment, and had to settle down
Now I'm playing it real straight, and yes I cut my hair
You might think I'm crazy, but I don't even care
Because I can tell what's going on
It's hip to be square
I like my bands in business suits, I watch them on TV
I'm working out most everyday and watching what I eat
They tell me that it's good for me, but I don't even care
I know that it's crazy
I know that it's nowhere
But there is no denying that
It's hip to be square
It's not too hard to figure out, you see it everyday
And those that were the farthest out have gone the other way
You see them on the freeway, It don't look like a lot of fun
But don't you try to fight it; "An idea who's time has come."
Don't tell me that I'm crazy
Don't tell me I'm nowhere
Take it from me
It's hip to be square

Leave an anonymous sticky note on his desk prophesizing the demise of his employment.
